ADVANTAGES TO USING A STUD DOG

Many that get started in the dog breeding business usually purchase a stud dog or two along with some female dogs. As Venomline discussed in American Bully Breeding 101, the better way of going about this is to start off by purchasing female dogs.

When your female reaches breeding age you can contact the kennels that offer stud service or contact the kennel you purchased your female puppy from to use their Studs.

Housing, feeding, and taking care of stud dogs is expensive and you’re not always guaranteed to have a great stud dog once they mature.

FINDING AN AMERICAN BULLY STUD

There are many ways to find a Top American Bully Stud — these can include in person events like dog shows hosted by the ABKCUKCBRC, a search on any of the online pedigree database like BullypediaBullyPedex or BullyDex.

These can be especially useful if you’re considering line breeding and looking for a common ancestor. Lastly, through word of mouth or by traveling to the Stud Owner to see the Stud in person. Breeders that photoshop their dogs will do just about anything possible in order to avoid having their Customers seeing their dogs in person. It’s understandable if Top Stud owner is busy, but most will make time for their Customers who are traveling down.

If you get a resistance when asking if you can see the Stud in person for the breeding — this is usually a red flag. Not every Stud dog online is what they look like in photos.

DECIDING ON AMERICAN BULLY STUD

GETTING DETAILED PEDIGREE INFORMATION

Choosing a Stud is a big decision and one that can set up your kennel for success. Be sure to get detailed pedigree information on the dogs to ensure that you are getting a quality linebred dog (meaning the same ancestors appear more than once in the 4 generation pedigree)

Linebred and inbred Studs will usually produce more consistent litters than a scatterbred one. Kennels that have been around for a while and have quality productions will usually linebreed.

All Studs at Venomline are linebred or inbred, health tested, DNA-Profiled and carry all colors including every tri color variation and bred to produce.

But don’t take our word for it — always check a Stud’s Productions.

WHAT TO LOOK FOR IN AN AMERICAN BULLY STUD

LINEBRED/INBRED VS SCATTERBRED

As mentioned above — linebred and inbred Studs have a higher likelihood of passing on traits to their offspring. By using a linebred or inbred Stud over a scatterbred one — the results become apparent in the quality and consistency of a litter.

It’s not difficult to figure out why — basic genetics & simple math: a dog that carries more copies of the desired genes — will have a higher likelihood of passing on them on to their offspring.

NOT ALL LINEBRED/INBRED DOGS MAKE GREAT STUD DOGS

Venomline’s Savage — 2X Venom

Now this doesn’t mean that all inbred and linebred dogs make great Sires. There are plenty of disasters of linebred/inbred Studs all over the place.

A quick scroll through any of the bully groups on Facebook and you’ll find there’s no shortage of examples. Take a look at any of the exotic bully groups if you really want to see some mistakes.

SETTING TRAITS

ABKC Champion Homicide — 2X GrCh Chumper

It’s important to understand that inbreeding and linebreeding are tools used to set traits. But, like the benefits, there’s also downside to closely related breedings. Inbreeding can be a double edged sword that can cause a lot of issues if done irresponsibly.

These types of breedings should only be carried out by experienced breeders that have a full understanding of the risks involved.

To avoid the COI (Coefficient of Inbreeding) from getting too high, an outcross os recommended immediately following an inbreeding.

INBREEDING & LINEBREEDING

ABKC Champion Venomline’s Lil’ Ting | 2X Venom

The word inbreeding carries with it a negative connotation by those unfamiliar with dog breeding, but the best examples of nearly every recognized breed since man domesticated the dog — have been the direct result of careful selection, linebreeding and inbreeding.

Again, inbreeding is done to set traits. But be aware that this doesn’t mean you’re just doubling up on the good, You’re also doubling up on the bad — this includes negative recessive traits and/or genetic disease. Ones that you may not have been aware even existed.

SHOW DOGS VS BROOD STOCK

Venomline’s King Koopa (2X Venom son)

Another common mistake that’s often made is assuming that just because a dog is a show dog, a Champion or just a good looking dog — that this automatically makes them a suitable Stud.

Just because a dog carries “type” or is proven in the Show ring — this includes Champion & Grand Champions — does not automatically mean that they will be great Stud dogs.

COMMON MISTAKES

Avoid common mistakes that can be costly when starting out — by going with a reliable breeder. There are plenty of Stud owners that will be happy to take you money — but not all of them will deliver. This is especially true when importing semen Internationally. Stud owners who aren’t experienced Shipping Internationally — aren’t always familiar with the testing requirements to import.

Each country has different import requirements and testing that’s required that has to be completed (often within a specific timeframe). If the required testing isn’t completed within this set time frame — or if the breeding units aren’t prepared, packaged or labeled correctly — the shipment can end up getting held up in customs with some not even making it into the country. It happens more than you’d expect.

So while some of the breeders may not have bad intentions — many will end up not being able to get shipments into the Customer’s country — and providing the services that they were paid for. Others are outright scams.

Avoid these issues by choosing an experienced breeder with a good reputation. One that can provide referrals of Customers that have successfully imported semen into your country. Be sure that your shipment is insured as protection in the event a tank goes missing or is held up by Customs.

Lastly, all details of the transaction, payment amount and exactly what the Stud owner agrees to provide for the amount paid in Contract.

MISTAKES TO AVOID

  • Inexperienced/Unreliable Breeders
  • Scams
  • International — Breeders are often quick to accept money from a Customer but aren’t always familiar or experienced with the different countries’ import requirements
  • Insurance
  • Contract

RESERVING A STUD

Deciding on an American Bully Stud should be an exciting and stress free process. Choosing the right stud & kennels or bloodlines to work with are 2 key factors that play a huge role in determining how likely you are to become a successful american bully breeder.

The first step in reserving a Stud is usually to contact the Stud owner. Quality programs usually require approval of the female. The approval process is usually pretty straight forward: send a few photos of the female as well as her pedigree.

If you don’t have an online pedigree set up, send a screenshot of the front and inside of your registration paperwork to the Stud owner. Once the female is approved, Studs can usually be reserved by leaving a deposit. A deposit “locks-in” a Stud’s current rate. If a Stud’s fee goes up — you’re still locked in at the rate when you reserved the Stud.

Deposits for quality Studs are typically $1000.

Venomline Studs can be reserved by leaving a deposit or Customers can pay for the Stud in full (up front) to receive discounted rates.

STEPS TO RESERVE A STUD DOG

  • Initial Contact
  • Approval of female
  • Payment to reserve- Deposit to lock-in current rate, paid in full (up front discount)

STUD CONTRACT

  • Terms
  • Female Doesn’t get pregnant
  • # of puppies considered a litter
  • Repeat Breedings

WHEN TO CONTACT STUD OWNER

Contact the Stud owner as soon as your female begins her heat. Most Stud owners count 1st drops of blood as day 1 of heat. Give the Stud owner a call or shoot them a quick text so they’re aware that your female has begun her heat cycle.

Good stud owners will walk their Customers through the entire process, making it stress free.

Always give the stud owner a heads up — nothing drives a Stud owner crazier than the Customer who texts or calls last minute, without prior mention that the female is even in heat and without previous progesterone results — “she’s ready. Go ahead and send it out.”

PROGESTERONE TESTING

Looking on the internet for information on progesterone testing is a nightmare. It’s nearly impossible to find information on what the #’s mean, or what numbers that would be ideal for breeding. Several websites will offer different advice and many vets aren’t helpful at all.

WHEN TO BEGIN PROGESTERONE TESTING

We recommend scheduling a first progesterone test beginning on day 4 or 5 of her heat. We count day 1 of heat as when the female first drops blood.

  • Day 1 of heat cycle is counted as the 1st day a female in heat drops blood.
  • Schedule a pre-breeding exam and/or 1st progesterone test for day 4–5 of heat.
  • Test regularly and communicate with the Stud Owner

UNDERSTANDING PROGESTERONE RESULTS

Progesterone results typically come in 2 forms: IDEXX and MiniVidas

  • IDEXX
  • Mini Vidas

AT WHAT PROGESTERONE LEVEL WILL FEMALES BE READY TO BE BRED?

There is no single exact number for determining the time of ovulation; we are looking for a number between 4ng/ml to 8ng/ml as the start of ovulation. Most typical bitches ovulate around 5ng/ml.

To keep things simple — we count ovulation as occurring between 5–5.5

FINDING THE BEST BREEDING DAY(S)

Once you’ve determined the day of ovulation, you now know (approximately) when the female has dropped her eggs. Remember, ovulation is when the female releases her eggs, it still takes 48–72 hours before those eggs are mature enough to be fertilized.

THE BEST BREEDING DAY(S) WILL BE DETERMINED BY THE METHOD OF BREEDING & WHETHER LIVE, FRESH CHILLED OR FROZEN SEMEN IS USED:

  • Natural Ties
  • Live Breeding/Side by Side AI
  • Regular AI w/Shipped Fresh Chilled
  • TCI
  • Surgical insemination (Surgical AI)

Ask your vet if they perform Surgical AI and TCI beforehand so you know your options.

TYPES OF ARTIFICIAL INSEMINATION (AI’S)

Artificial insemination (AI) can be performed by a number of different methods and utilizing sperm from fresh, extended or frozen sources.

  • Regular AI
  • TCI
  • Surgical Insemination

1. LIVE/SIDE BY SIDE AI (REGULAR AI)

Regular AI’s — sometimes referred to as side-by-side AI’s use fresh semen, but instead of the male depositing sperm inside the female, our repro specialist will collect the semen and then inserts it into the female.

The timing for natural mating and side-by-side AI is more forgiving because fresh semen can live within the uterus for 5–6 days.

  • 24–48 hours (1–2 days) after progesterone reaches 5ng/ml.
  • Skip a day and do a 2nd AI if you have the option available to you

2. TRANS-CERVICAL INSEMINATION (TCI)

Trans-cervical insemination is a method to deliver sperm directly into the uterus, bypassing the cervix. The advantage is the same as the surgical intrauterine method of insemination (commonly called an implant). Many sperm may not penetrate the cervix after a routine vaginal insemination. This can be especially true for frozen or chilled semen, or in cases of bitch or stud dog decreased fertility

3. SURGICAL INSEMINATION (SURGICAL AI)

Surgical Insemination is a good choice for older females, females with poor fertility (those that have had trouble becoming pregnant) and those with uterine pathology. An incision is made into the abdomen and the semen is injected into the base both horns.

Conception rates can be as high as 80–85% when the estrus cycle has been appropriately managed.

FRESH CHILLED SEMEN

NATURAL BREEDING\REGULAR AI W/FRESH SEMEN

  • Begin 12-24 hours after ovulation
  • Skip a day/follow w/2nd breeding if the option is available

TCI W/FRESH CHILLED SEMEN

  • 24–48 hours (2 days) after progesterone reaches 5ng/ml.

SURGICAL AI WITH FRESH-CHILLED SEMEN

  • 48–72 hours after progesterone reaches 5ng/ml

FROZEN SEMEN

SURGICAL INSEMINATION IS REQUIRED FOR SURGICAL INSEMINATION (AI)

  • 72 hours (3 days) after progesterone reaches 5ng/ml.

TESTS TO COMPLETE AHEAD OF BREEDING

The following are tests to complete with your breeding female ahead of the breeding date (before stud owner ships)

  • Pre-Breeding Checkup/Screen
  • Brucellosis
  • Rabies Vaccine
  • Heart

These tests are not all required by american bully breeders, but we recommended testing for those wanting more information on the soundness of their breeding bitch. Look for Elongated Soft Palate, trachea, or any heart or joint abnormalities.

GENETIC TESTING IN THE AMERICAN BULLY BREED

Venomline’s Dolce | 2X Venom Daughter

AMERICAN BULLY DNA-TESTING

Genetic testing can give you a better idea of any recessive traits your dog carries and if your dog is a “carrier” of any negative recessives that could come to light if bred to another dog that’s a carrier of the same issue. But, test results in the wrong hands or by someone without a full understanding of canine genetics and knowledge on the diseases which are even expressed in the american bully breed can also be problematic.

CRD is a great example of genetic disease that can show up on test results but haven’t been expressed in our breed.

Some may remember the hysteria in Australia over Embark test results.

HOW DO I TELL IF MY FEMALE IS PREGNANT?

WAYS TO FIND OUT IF YOUR FEMALE IS PREGNANT

  • Ultrasound
  • X-Ray

CONFIRMATION OF PREGNANCY

Once the breeding is complete, barring any recommended follow up appointments — usually only the case surgical insemination (surgical AI) the next appointment won’t be for another 30 days. Some vets will recommend coming back in 3 weeks, but the honest ones will tell you — they can’t see much at 21 days.

Schedule an appointment for ultrasound confirmation 30 days after the insemination. The ultrasound is good for “confirming” the breeding, but it’s difficult to get a count. Use the ultrasound appointment to find out if the breeding was a success. The next appointment won’t be for another few weeks, and that’s the X-ray to get a count. Some vets do them earlier, we usually wait until around day 56–57 to get a count and schedule the c-section.

Do not try and have the litter naturally, with the American Bully breed — you always want to do c-section delivery. One puppy getting lodged in the birth canal is all it takes to lose an entire litter and jeopardize the health of your female.

  • Ultrasound at 30 days
  • X-Ray for Count

PROVIDING STUD SERVICE WITH YOUR DOG

For those fortunate enough to have produced or purchased a nice male — there will probably come a time when people begin to ask about Stud Service. If you’ve never provided Stud Service before, this can seem like an overwhelming task at first.

But, if you prepare before offering Stud Service & collecting Customer money — and you do things the right way — you can produce quality offspring and build a happy Customer base. You can also make additional income. With the right dog that is. Without the right dog — a quality Stud with a great pedigree — you’ll be be out as soon as you get started.

VENOMLINE STUDS

THE EXTREME BUILD POCKET AMERICAN BULLY STUDS OF VENOMLINE

The Venomline Bloodline is home to some of the world’s most sought after Studs.

All of the Extreme Build Pocket American Bully Studs at Venomline are inbred or tightly linebred to produce the most consistent litters. Our Studs exhibit breed type and carry extreme features without being overdone.

Venomline Studs carry the Daxline signature headpiece, muscular neck, shoulders and build. Our Studs differ from many other kennels in that addition to carrying extreme features, they’re also extremely short & compact with short backs.

Many of the Extreme Studs today look great until they turn to the side. There’s a lot of super long dogs and for us that’s a big “no.”

While the majority of breeders and kennels have finally come to their senses with the realization that “type” should be at the very top of the list when choosing a Stud and that without it — it’s becoming increasingly difficult for many to win in the show ring — many breeders have begun to search out and select Extreme build Studs for their breeding programs.

In addition to of the Stud dogs here at Venomline also carry all colors including all tri color variations.

VENOMLINE FEMALES

THE FEMALES OF VENOMLINE

Venomline females are known for being some of the “bulliest” and most Extreme females on the planet. But what separates us from many other breeders are the females used as part of our breeding program.

It’s simple to use a top Stud, anyone can do that… but at Venomline, we know that it takes both a Top level Stud and a Top Level bitch to produce quality litters on a consistent basis.

We’ll put our females up against any lineup in the World.

FOUNDATION & THE NEXT GENERATION FEMALES

It’s fairly easy to add mass and Extreme features, what’s not easy is producing it on a complete american bully. One with angulation along with a thick strong rear on a dog that may exhibit extreme traits but is still functional. If a dog can’t run and play, in our opinion.. that’s a failure.

There are not too many kennels that are currently combining the “wow factor” and extreme traits desired in the breed while also producing balanced dogs from head to rear that are fully functional and athletic for the breed and still able to excel in the show ring.

Here you’ll find Foundation Females that are linebred to produce.

The result can be seen in our productions

TCI W/FRESH CHILLED SEMEN

  • 24–48 hours (1-2 days) after progesterone reaches 5ng/ml.

SURGICAL AI WITH FRESH-CHILLED SEMEN

  • 48–72 hours after progesterone reaches 5ng/ml

FROZEN SEMEN

  • 72 hours (3 days) after progesterone reaches 5ng/ml.

TESTING TO COMPLETE AHEAD OF BREEDING

  • Pre-Breeding Checkup/Screen
  • Brucellosis
  • Rabies Vaccine
  • Heart

Not required, but recommended testing for those wanting more information on the soundness of their breeding bitch. Soft Palate, trachea, heart, joint abnormalities.

GENETIC TESTING IN THE AMERICAN BULLY BREED

Venomline’s Dolce | 2X Venom Daughter

Genetic testing can give you a better idea of any recessive traits your dog carries and if your dog is a “carrier” of any negative recessives that could come to light if bred to another dog that’s a carrier of the same issue.

But test results in the wrong hands or by someone without a full understanding of canine genetics and knowledge on the diseases which are even expressed in the american bully breed can also be problematic.

CRD is a great example of genetic disease that can show up on test results but haven’t been expressed in our breed.

Some may remember the hysteria in Australia over Embark test results.

IMPORTANT THINGS TO CONSIDER

  • Shipping or Traveling to Stud?
  • Stud Credit Expiration
  • Purchasing Stud Credit w/partner or Co-own
  • Switching of Female
  • Re-Sale of Stud Credit
  • In the Event something happens to Stud owner..

HOW TO TELL IF YOUR FEMALE IS PREGNANT

HOW TO TELL IF YOUR AMERICAN BULLY IS PREGNANT

C-SECTION IN THE AMERICAN BULLY BREED

SCHEDULING THE C-SECTION

Always opt for C-Section with the American Bully Breed. Schedule an appt with the Vet 56-57 days after insemination appointment for a Check-Up to determine the best day for the Vet to perform the C-Section. We do X-Rays around this time for a count to find out exactly how many pups are in there and to make sure we see that exact # come out. You’d be surprised at the # of times we’ve seen Vets leave one in accidentally. Schedule an X-Ray for count ahead of the C-Section.

ITEMS TO BRING TO C-SECTION

  • Laundry basket
  • Fresh towels
  • Bulb Syringe (Aspirator)
  • Goats Milk (buy A LOT) only Meyenberg liquid no powder brands
  • Baby bottles
  • Heating pad

ITEMS TO REQUEST FROM VET BEFORE LEAVING

  • Oxytocin
  • Liquid Antibiotics

NEWBORN PUPPIES

PROPER CARE FOR NEWBORN AMERICAN BULLY PUPPIES

  • 1st Milk — Colostrum
  • Separate from mom keep in laundry basket w/heating pad
  • Fluid in Lungs
  • Pinching behind ears to clear lungs
  • Bulb Syringe
  • “Swinging” puppies

WHELPING AMERICAN BULLY PUPPIES

WHELPING BOX

  • Separate from mom at beginning – For the 1st 2 weeks keep pups in laundry basket with towels and heating pad underneath. Do not leave newborn pups in with mom for the 1st 2 weeks. This is a simple solution that will prevent you from losing puppies due to being squished, suffocated and it also helps pups regulate their temps. After 2 weeks, your puppies will be string enough to move on their own if they are caught in a compromising situation.
  • Roll bars

FEEDING PUPPIES

  • Nursing on mom
  • Goats milk

WEANING

Weaning is transitioning your puppies diet from it’s mother’s milk to the solid growth diet of puppyhood. In the wild, weaning begins naturally as soon as the puppies start to develop their teeth, typically at three to four weeks of age. We begin to wean our puppies and introduce

  • Transitioning from nursing on mom to eating on their own
  • Making “mush”
  • Introducing dry food

PROVIDING STUD SERVICES WITH YOUR DOG

For those fortunate enough to have produced or purchased a nice male — there will probably come a time when people begin to ask about Stud Service. If you’ve never provided Stud Service before, this can seem like an overwhelming task at first.

But, if you prepare before offering Stud Service & collecting Customer money — and you do things the right way — you can produce quality offspring and build a happy Customer base. You can also make additional income. With the right dog that is. Without the right dog — a quality Stud with a great pedigree — you’ll be be out as soon as you get started.

Everyone with a male thinks their dog is Stud dog. This isn’t the case.

MARKETING YOUR STUD DOG

Anyone can hype up a Stud.. but if the Stud ain’t producing, those same Customers aren’t coming back.

VENOMLINE STUDS

ABKC CHAMPION HOMICIDE JOINS VENOMLINE – TOP AMERICAN BULLY STUDS

THE NEWEST ADDITION TO THE WORLD’S BEST EXTREME BUILD POCKET AMERICAN BULLY STUD LINEUP — CH HOMICIDE

ABKC Champion Homicide

Welcome to our monthly newsletter, where you’ll find the latest news from top Pocket American Bully Breeders — Venomline Pocket Bullies. If you missed our last article, we covered everything you need to know about Stud Service in the American Bully breed.

In this article, we have a huge announcement, a few updates on recent litters and new Upcoming Breeding pairs to announce.

ABKC CHAMPION HOMICIDE JOINS VENOMLINE

We are thrilled to announce that ABKC Champion Homicide will be joining Venom, Omega, King V, Savage & King Koopa at Venomline!

Ch Homicide, Venom, Omega & King V

ABKC CHAMPION HOMICIDE

Not only is this one of our favorite Studs outside of our yard, his pedigree (2X GrCh Chumper) fits together like a puzzle piece with some of our 2X Venom daughters, our Omega, King V & Savage daughters, but his offspring should also line up perfectly for King Koopa.

We will be doing our best — working toward finishing Ch Homicide off in the Show Ring and hopefully earning his Grand Champion Title.

Ch Homicide joins a World Class Lineup of some of the best Extreme Build Pocket American Bully Studs you’ll find anywhere in the World.

For anyone with Ch Homicide credits, we will make sure there’s a smooth transition and that your Stud Credits won’t be affected. All credits will still be honored. We will announce once Ch Homicide arrives and when we will open for Stud once we have completed health testing.

1st Pick 2X VENOM FEMALE AVAILABLE FOR SALE

VENOMLINE’S MJ — A CLONE OF BIG SISTER ABKC CHAMPION LIL’ TING

This is the last 1st Pick keeper female that we will be making Available for Sale for a very long time. We’ve debated long and hard on this one and may end up pulling her off the site and deciding to keep her. This is Venomline’s MJ — Littermate sister to Venomline’s King Koopa, Rampage, Ch Lil’ Ting, Savage, Vanna White and all of the other standouts from the 1st ever 2X Venom breeding.

Ch Venomline’s Lil Ting at 8 months & MJ pictured at 7 months

Rampage, Ch Lil’ Ting & Savage were all produced in the original pairing, King Koopa, MJ & Rhea were produced in the repeat breeding. Venom X Moana is by far one of the best breedings we’ve ever done and many of the dogs produced in this matchup are known Worldwide.

As much as we don’t want to sell this girl, we’ve kept Rampage, Ch Lil’ Ting, Savage, King Koopa, MJ & Rhea of Venomline South. That’s 6 offspring off Venom X Moana with identical pedigrees. We are currently in the process of moving into a much larger home with more room for the dogs and have made the decision to let go of a few keepers that otherwise would never be Available for Sale.

PURCHASING AN AMERICAN BULLY PUPPY

When I first begin my research into the breed, long before making the decision to purchase an American Bully — I looked up everything I could possibly find on the breed. If it was online, in print or pertaining to the breed, I was all over it. I was definitely interested. I loved the look, personality and temperament of the bully breeds, but found myself most drawn to both the american bully and Olde English Bulldogge.

TEMPERAMENT, PERSONALITY, TRAITS, HEALTH & LIFESPAN

Purchasing a puppy is a huge decision and I wanted to find out as much as possible about each of the breeds which would be the best fit for our family and lifestyle. Another important factor influencing my decision was selecting a breed that was gentle, calm and patient. Especially with young children. I started with the basics first — researching everything from temperament, to personality, health and lifespan.

I was fascinated by the American Bully, but curious as to how a breed of dog that resembled more of a bodybuilder than pet — one with such a fierce and intimidating look — could be so gentle, loving and great with children. After nearly a decade experience with this breed, I can tell you this — they absolutely adore them. Our 8 year old 108lb Standard bully has been sleeping with our son since he was 4 years old.

Who needs a night light when you’ve got a bully?

NEVER JUDGE A BOOK BY IT’S COVER

King V like his dad.. is afraid of heights

It was the “look” of the american bully that first got my attention, but the breed’s gentle nature, loving personality and silly quirks that sold me. This is truly an incredible breed! Despite their tough exterior, they are a gentle natured, sweet, playful and soft-hearted breed.

BIT BY THE “BULLY BUG?”

Like many new bully owners, I fell in love with the breed and the new addition to our family. I got bit by the “bully bug” and I was hooked. I wanted to find out more, and learn as much as possible about our new furry friend and his lineage. This led me to begin researching pedigrees and looking my dog’s ancestry. Inevitably I wound up on several different breeder’s websites.

When the time came and we were ready to add a second bully, I knew that I wanted something related to my boy. But I also wanted to see how the breeder’s puppies looked like as adults. Very few american bully breeders would provide any update or follow-up on their dogs after they’ve left as puppies. I was willing to spend good money, but for the right dog. I couldn’t seem to find any adult productions off Sires on the litters I was interested in. The puppies were cute, but how did they mature?

“What do they look like now, as adults?”

VENOM X CARTIER

For the first time ever Venom meets Beijing Boy!

VENOM X XENA

2X Venom Meets Mye-Stro! In this incredible matchup, Venom daughter Khaleesi was bred to Double L’s Mye-Stro producing Venomline’s Xena. We then bred Xena (in accordance to Brackett’s method) back to her grandfather Louis V Line’s Venom. The result was spectacular.

Check out them out below!

SAVAGE X STORM

These 2X Venom pups are super short & compact, extremely thick with dense bone and have some of the best heads/headshapes we’ve produced.

The puppies produced in this litter are not only structurally nearly flawless, they also carry every color! On top of that, they also carry all tri color variations. For the very first time: 2X Venom meets Big Red, Louis V meets GrCh Rockomania.

RECENT CUSTOMER LITTERS

CUSTOMER LITTER #1: KING V X FENDI

This colorful litter was Produced by Bullistic Label Bullies using Venomline’s King V at stud. I always enjoy when our customers bring their litters by for us to see. Gives me a chance to evaluate the consistency and quality in our studs productions with outside blood, and also gives me an opportunity to spend time with and get to know our customers.

Id like to give a huge shoutout to Bullistic Label Bullies for bringing their King V litter over and coming to see the dogs in person.

CUSTOMER LITTER #2: KING V X DALLAS MARIE

We were able to see another one of our stud’s litters as Rigg Tuff Bullies brought their King V litter down for photos and to meet the parents. This was another litter where King V was brought to different blood. The Dam is a Venom grandaughter (Sire to the dam was Khaleesi’s littermate) with Lucky Luciano on the bottom half of the pedigree.

ABKC Champions Venomline’s Lil’ Ting (left) & Khaleesi (right)

Different blood, same result. Boned up structurally sound pocket american bullies with flashy colors. I liked both litters so much, I offered to purchase one of the females. Unfortunately the first litter was already sold out, but I found the perfect female in Rigg Tuff Bullies litter full of hitters.

You know your stud is producing quality when you can’t help but buy one of his offspring. We haven’t named her yet, but the blue tri female pictured below will be joining the camp and moving in with dad King V and grandpa Venom!

THE VENOMLINE BLOODLINE

THE WORLD’S BEST EXTREME BUILD POCKET BULLIES

Originally from Houston, Texas, we are now located in sunny South Florida.

We are proud to have in-house and to have produced several ABKC Pocket American Bully Champions. Our dogs have been featured in Rolling Stone Magazine, BULLY KING Magazine, Bully Girl Magazine, in Music Videos and on television (NBC, Barcroft Animals)

Venomline is known for producing some of the thickest dogs in the world, without sacrificing conformation or health. Our dogs are known for having massive heads, dense bone, broad chests, wide shoulders, short muzzles, and being packed rock solid with muscle on short & compact frames.

We are different than most kennels in the fact that we do not use a traditional kennel set up. Our dogs sleep in beds and are a part of our family, not kept locked up in kennels all day. We pride ourselves in producing dogs that have “wow” factor along with great temperament and athleticism despite the heavy muscle/bone they carry.

Our dogs are DNA & Health Tested, pups come with health certificate, ABKC registration paperwork, shots & de-worming as well as a health guarantee covering any genetic related issues. We ship semen (Stud Service) worldwide. View our World Class Studs. We are also experienced and familiar with the import process and regulations for shipping semen to any country.

Venomline (South Florida) is proud to announce the opening of our 2nd location- Venomline South located in North Carolina.

We’ll put out females up against any female lineup in the World.

QUALITY FEMALES ARE INTEGRAL TO A BREEDING PROGRAM’S SUCCESS

American Bully Females are integral to the success of any breeding program. Without using quality females to pair with Top Studs, litters more than likely just end up being a watered down version of what was initially intended.

Venom daughter Kilo pictured at 8 months

Knowing this, our primary focus for the past 8 years has been to produce the best possible Pocket Bully Females to match up with our Top Tier Studs.

One thing that we never lost sight of as we added the dense bone, big blocky heads, muscular builds and Extreme features, is producing a complete dog. A lot of the “Extreme” American Bullies today, or at least many of the dogs being marketed as such.. are not what we would consider a complete American Bully.

DAWGHOUSE BULLIES & 2020-2021 MASCOT ABKC CHAMPION BIG APACHE

KENNEL INTERVIEW: DAWGHOUSE BULLIES FEATURING 2020-2021 MASCOT CHAMPION BIG APACHE

Dawghouse Bullies is Owned & Operated by Brian & Jacqueline Amendola Loctated in Boca Raton, FL

STATE YOUR NAME, KENNEL NAME & WHERE YOU’RE LOCATED

Dawghouse Bullies is owned and operated by Jacqueline and Brian Amendola in Boca Raton, Florida.

TELL US ABOUT THE NAME OF YOUR KENNEL AND WHAT IT REPRESENTS

The name “Dawghouse” came from my Brother In Law & one of our best friends (brother) to my husband Brian- Rudy DeTommaso. Rudy was an entrepreneur involved in Italian restaurants and nightclubs in South Florida. He often referred to his closest circle of family as “The Dawghouse.” Years ago, Rudy passed and we named our kennel “the Dawghouse” in his honor.

Because it reminds us of him and the good times that we had, and also because a tight family stays tight together. Both in good times and bad. To this day, we still see our dogs as tight as family and thus the name Dawghouse Bullies was created.

CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT THE YEAR & WHAT WAS GOING ON WHEN YOU GOT INVOLVED WITH THE BREED?

Back in 2000 we bred AKC American Staffordshire Terriers. We did not start breeding American Bullies and entering into ABKC shows until a few years later. We bought our very first American Bully in 2013 from Royal Blue Kennels out of Stuart, Florida. We named him RBK’s Blue Dozer.

Dozer is currently an ABKC Champion in the Classic class and now retired. We loved Dozer so much that we decided to purchase a female just for him! We went with another breeder out of Tampa (Grindhouse Bullies). We decided to name her Grindhouse’s Aww Sookie Sookie… and the name fit perfectly. And from there, it was pretty much all she wrote!

HOW WERE YOU INTRODUCED TO THE BREED?

We were blessed with Sookie’s first litter – 10 perfect dual registered UKC/ABKC competitive show bullies. With the birth of these beautiful puppies our obsession with this incredible breed only increased. What’s not to love about these beautiful beasts? Like many, we fell totally in love with the breed, their build, color, amazing personalities and temperament. After a few years, we decided to focus our attention solely on breeding American Bullies that fit the Pocket Class. Pocket bullies are not the easiest to breed, but to us it’s the class and style of bully we love the most.

WHAT TYPE OF DOGS DO YOU BREED & WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE TRAITS OF THIS PARTICULAR BREED?

Our vision and goal at Dawghouse Bullies is to produce Pocket American Bullies with Extreme Features. Dogs that exemplify breed “type” and are still able to excel in the show ring. We focus on the importance of thickness, bone and head in our dogs, without losing sight of the ABKC breed Standard and having “correct” conformation for the Show Ring.

We don’t breed just to breed dogs, Dawghouse has always planned breedings with a goal in mind. While we may not have as many litters as many other breeders- when we do, the two dogs being paired together are a combination of the very best pedigrees.

DID YOU HAVE A MENTOR OR ANY GUIDANCE WHEN YOU 1ST STARTED?

We’ve been blessed to have had some great mentors along the way! One of the first was Kathy McCloyne of Royal Blue Kennels and the other was Olin Stephens of Grindhouse Bullies. If we ever feel lost or need helpful insight, we always go back to the basics. And many times it has to do with what they taught us.

These two mentors of ours are always just a phone call away! We are extremely grateful for all of the knowledge that they have passed down to us, and in return we try to pass down the same lessons that we’ve learned over the years to other breeders with less experience, or anyone with good intentions and willingness to learn.

WHAT DOES YOUR DOGS DIET CONSIST OF?

Our dogs’ diets consist of Raw food. We use a commercial meat grinder to grind raw bone for the dogs to eat. Their diet consists of beef, chicken, pork, fish, liver, tripe, kidney etc. If you are interested, there are many Youtube videos that teach both the benefits of feeding raw and how to do it. We always say to “do your own research and make your own decision” after you’ve done your own research. But for us, it was a simple decision to make.

Especially due to the fact that one of our own dogs was allergic to just about everything. We had to give her medication in an attempt to keep her skin issues under control. Once we made the transition to a raw diet, we noticed significant changes in all of our dogs! Coats began to become noticeably shinier, not dusty or dry looking. We noticed improvement in muscle tone and definition and considerable weight gain. After a short period of feeding raw, we were able to get off of the allergy medication altogether and the same female with skin issues has not had a single breakout in the past five years.

WHAT DO YOU HAVE PLANNED AT YOUR KENNEL OVER THE NEXT YEAR?

We just had an in-house breeding and were absolutely thrilled with the results! We paired one of our very own female productions- ABKC Champion Dawghouse’s Fury. We produced Fury in our breeding to Louis V Line’s Venom (Venom X Aww Sookie Sookie). Fury was Venom’s first born daughter and also the very first Venom offspring to become a Chamnpion.

We bred to Ed Shephard’s “couch dog” Daxline’s Santino. As many know, Santino produced 2019 Nationals Winner ABKC Grand Champion Sampson. If you’re familiar with bloodlines, no further explanation is needed on this one. A tight line breeding with just enough variation, this nine times Dax and two times Louis V litter resulted in a litter of absolute show stoppers!

CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT ANY NEW ADDITIONS TO YOUR CAMP?

We recently added a new member to our pack: a Dreamchaser Bullies female off of Bai Nan’s legendary Ch Muscletone’s Magoo. She was bred by his partner Karen from Clay Southerns. We appreciate the help from these two so that we can keep moving in the direction of our visions. Wishing nothing but goodness for those around us. #ELE.

TELL US MORE ABOUT 2020 BULLY KING MASCOT DAWGHOUSE’S BIG APACHE

Big Apache was produced in a pairing between Mad Dog’s Pandora of TSB/DHB, a Champion Lucky Luciano Daughter that we matched up with Phokings’ Big Red, a Grand Champion Rockomania son. This was a breeding between two very short and “bully” dogs that produced some amazing results. This breeding was a collaboration between Venomline’s Matt Siebenthal and Dawghouse Bullies. Every single pup from this litter has turned out to be exceptional.

The litter not only produced 2020 BULLY KING Magazine Mascot Champion Big Apache but also his brother Grand Champion Diesel. Diesel made headlines months back becoming one of the youngest ABKC Grand Champions in breed history at just 11 months old. GrCh Diesel is owned by Robert & Melissa Thomas. We’re expecting big things as well out of his siblings like Blackout owned by Richard Korakakos and Hollywood AKA “Roman” owned by David and Brittany Farag.

CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT APACHE’S STATS AND HIS PERSONALITY?

Apache currently shows in the pocket class where he earned his Champion Title. We will be working toward his Grand Champion Title next and he has already earned a major in his first time showing in the class. Apache is just a little over 1 1/2 years old and currently weighs in at an earth shattering 90 pounds.

That’s a ton of mass on a Pocket Bully that’s structurally sound. Apache has five loves in his life: Raw food, his frisbee, his family, sleeping and he loves to play! What he dislikes, is negative energy. Apache is an eternal optimist that sees the best in just about anyone. But he can also sense negative energy and people with bad intentions. We think this is his gift!

How can we tell when he doesn’t like a person? He hides behind us ever so obviously and inconspicuously… Not! Hard to hide that massive body of his, but he seems to think he does a good job. Apache doesn’t have a mean bone in his body, so he’d never bite (even if antagonized). To this day, we’ve never seen him show his teeth to any dog, human or animal. As gentle as he is, he also serves as our alarm system. When someone is at the door or he sees the mailman, he’s happy to show off his ferocious bark, which makes us laugh because we know he’d never do anything to anyone.

ANY SHOUTOUTS OR PEOPLE YOU’D LIKE TO MENTION?

We would like to thank Fort Lauderdale Animal Hospital who’s our primary reproductive veterinarian for helping us with Apaches stud program and with all of our breedings and surgical needs. Please feel free to Contact us at dawghousebullies.com or dawghousebullies on Instagram and Facebook for more information on Apache.

We have always admired Ed Shepherd and his accomplishments as a breeder and dogman. Ed was not only extremely knowledgeable about the breed, but his passion was contagious and he inspired countless others. Ed was also a man of God and wasn’t afraid to let you know it!. He was an incredible man that is responsible for creating many of the biggest legends in our breed! We want to say thank you to him for everything!

If you’re not already following Jackie and Dawghouse Bullies, be sure to give Dawghouse a follow on all of their social media sites and keep up with the latest from BULLY KING Mascot ABKC Champion Big Apache, ABKC Champion Fury, ABKC Champion Dozer and the rest of the Dawghouse crew!

DAWGHOUSE BULLIES PUPPIES

As of this writing- Champion Apache’s first couple litters have arrived and we’re beyond ecstatic with both their potential and his future at Stud. Dawghouse’s puppies are in high demand, so if you’re interested in a quality bully from an exceptional breeder that truly cares about the breed and the puppies produced, it’s best to reserve in advance by leaving a deposit on a future breeding before spots fill up.

But if you keep your dogs outside, leave them chained up or cannot provide a loving home or afford proper care, vet visits etc., don’t be offended if Jackie refuses to sell you a dog. As we mentioned earlier, Jackie truly loves her babies and only wants them placed with loving, responsible owners. If you can provide a loving home, proper care or do not treat your dogs as part of the family, find another breeder. But if you truly love your dogs and treat them as part of the family, you won’t find a more knowledgeable, caring and quality breeder.

Jackie not only follows up with her puppies that leave, she’s also one of the absolute best in her field when it comes to diet, whelping litters as well as being experienced in both training and showing in conformation events (dog shows). Not only is she experienced, she’s accomplished in the show ring as well, having champed out multiple produced dogs in several different classes.

We’ve published several of Jackie’s articles in past issues as she’s our “go to” resource on food and diet as well as many other aspects of this incredible breed. When you choose Dawghouse, you’re not only getting top of the line dog- you’re gaining a mentor and friend. One that’s always willing to help and guide, teach and is a source of invaluable information.

MOST PROUD MOMENT OF 2020?

There have been many proud moments since we started out on this journey! One of the accomplishments that we’re most proud of is taking some of our productions into the ABKC show ring, and despite having never been a handler ourselves- we’ve managed to earn ABKC Champion Titles for three dogs in two different Classes.

Champion Apache, Champion Fury and Champion BlueDozer. Despite being new to handling our own dogs, we decided why stop there? Big Apache, Fury and Blue Dozer have all currently earned points toward their Grand Champion titles.

ANYTHING YOU’D LIKE TO SEE CHANGE OR IMPROVE IN OUR BREED?

We believe that American Bully Breeders today in general, need to emphasize more on creating functional and healthy American Bullies. Those with “correct” structure that are show quality, without losing sight of health and temperament.

We will always put these criteria first and foremost as our program objective. We believe that the ABKC is making great strides in improving breed standards. We like the diversity of the judges’ and their opinions. Although it’s inevitable that judging can be subjective, as a whole they’re usually pretty close to each other in terms of what they like to see across the board. We usually see the same top 3 dogs picked in a quad show, usually just in different order. Though some may not agree, we think diverse judging is a good thing within reason.

Please feel free to reach out to us anytime! We’re easy to find and happy to help.

If you’d like information about our studs and future breedings and puppies for sale at Dawghouse- please be sure to go to the contact page on their Website and fill out the form to be added to our newsletter.

BULLY KING MAGAZINE

The History of Lowjack Remy-Martin & Remyline

Original Story credit: Christopher “Bully The Kid” Bennet

The story of Remy Martin is stuff of legend. A sickly looking pup purchased for around $500 and a treadmill- eventually banked enough money to buy his own treadmill company. The term legend is thrown around too loosely in the Bully Community. There is no debate Lowjack’s Remy-Martin is a Legend, there is no argument, no discussion except where his place is in the Hall of Fame.

A dog that was the first to start a line, the first to create a t-shirt fad, and perhaps the first Bully to be used in a divorce settlement as a legitimate earner. He was the cause of the dreams of new dog men who come into the bully game with the idea you could “luck up” and choose the right pup from the whelping box to solidify their entire yard. He was known not only in Southern California, but the entire United States. Then as if that wasn’t enough, he set Europe and Asia on fire with his blood.

Remy Martin made the reddish blue fawn colored coat popular. Everybody was stuck on blue until he stepped onto the scene as something different. His unique bark was a distinct characteristic that only his line possessed. He had an army behind him, down to the camouflaged fatigues and boots. The Show Scene was turned upside down when the Remyline Crew started barking for that Remy blood.

Now there are tattoos and stories about a Bully legend- a scattering of fables that place emphasis on the fire he ignited that separated him from the rest. The Controversy surrounding the amount of breeding he actually did now pales in comparison to the amount of individuals who wished they owned a Remy son or daughter. It seems now he wasn’t bred enough so that more people could experience the heat that sparked the legend-the legend that will always be sparked by the Remy fire.

With the advent of the Razor’s Edge line of pit bulls, a number of bloodline strains from Razor’s Edge have been born. The most popular of these strains is the Remyline bloodline. “One dog, one line.” Like Gotti blood, Fabian Chichester created the Remy line from a single stud. “Lowjack’s Remy Martin.” The history of Remyline starts back in 03’ with $500 and a treadmill.

Remy was the last puppy left in his litter and Fabian traded a treadmill and $500 cash for him not knowing exactly how special the little pup would be. As the pup matured, Fabian realized that Remy was one of a kind. Remy had a look about him like no other dog in around. Blue Fawn in color, thick heavy bone, a magnificent head piece and a profile stare that said; this is one serious dog!

Folks in the rapidly growing Bully community fell in love with Remy. It wasn’t long before Fabian was approached with requests to use Remy as a stud for a variety of females. In a period of just a few short years Remy became one of the most prolific bred Pitbulls in history with over 936 registered offspring.

Those who are fortunate enough to have Remy in their pedigree proudly identify with the Remyline name. Remy has produced many show quality offspring, while starting the Remy movement that will never be forgotten in the Bully World. We are proud to have Gottiline, Remy and Razors Edge lines on our yard, with the one and only Remy on our peds.

Fabian set a price of $2500 for the stud fee and people began to line up for the chance to have Remy sire a litter in the hopes of creating another Remy. Thus Remyline Kennels was born. Today, a half a dozen years later, many kennels are still lining up to have a chance to add Remy blood to their profile. In a period of just a few short years Remy has become one of the most prolific bred Pit bulls in history, with over a thousand registered offspring. Those who are fortunate enough to have Remy in their pedigree proudly identify with the Remyline name.

What is interesting to note, is the way that Fabian went about building Remyline. Unlike Dave Wilson who used a number of different Pit bulls in which to develop the Razor’s Edge line; Fabian used just one dog to create Remy line. Of course, dozens have tried to imitate Fabian’s success, reasoning that if he could do it with Remyline, they could accomplish the same thing with their dog. The fact is; no line of PitBull of the Razor’s Edge or Gotti strain has even come close to gaining the recognition that Remyline has achieved.

How to Create A Quick and Inexpensive Whelping Box

How To Series: Creating an inexpensive Whelping Box (For about $58.00 worth of material including Beer)

By Dawghouse Bullies

Box size:

If the female you are breeding can lay comfortably on her side in a 36″ or 42″ long crate, then a 48″ square whelping box will be perfect. These directions are for a 48″ square which will easily accommodate most pocket and standard bullies.

Materials:

  • Two 4×8 sheets of 1/4″ plywood
  • One 8′  1×1
  • Two 8′ pieces of 1×6
  • One box of laminate flooring.
  • (Enough to cover 16s.f.)
  • Tools:
  • Tape measure
  • Utility knife
  • Spray adhesive (optional)
  • Nail gun
  • Circular saw
  • Jig saw
  • Pencil
  • Shoe lace or string
  • Beer
Materials

Step 1. The base and corner posts:

Cut one piece of 1/4″ plywood in half to give you two 4×4 pieces. One of these will be your base.

We used relatively thin plywood in order to keep weight and cost to a minimum. We have used thicker in the past and saw no benefits.

Cut the 8′ 1×1 into four 18″ pieces. These will be your 4 corner posts.

Screw or nail one 18″ 1×1 into each of the 4 corners.

Next: cover the base surface with your vinyl or linoleum flooring. Be sure to notch out the 4 corners for the 1×1 posts. Tip: if you purchase 1 foot squares you will only need 16 pieces at $0.69 a piece at Home Depot. We use the vinyl flooring so that the wood doesn’t absorb the urine and discharge.

It can be easily cleaned to keep the box sanitary. Spray adhesive is optional, the flooring tiles have adhesive backing and will stick just fine without it. We just happened to have some lying around.

Flooring

Step 2. The walls:

Next cut four 48″X 18″ pieces out of your remaining plywood. It’s already 48″ wide so you’ll just have to make cuts every 18″ across.  These will be your 4 side walls. One will be the front with access door. (do not install this one yet)

Installing the Walls

Step 3 Front with Access Panel:

Front Access Panel

On the one side panels which will have the front  access door, measure across the length 1/2 way (24″) and put a temporary drew or nail in half way.  We tied a string from our temporary screw to a pencil in order to draw a semi circle which will mark our access door.

Cutting the semi circle

We then used a jig saw to cut a semi circle on the top side.

The access door can be used as needed to keep the puppies in. When the pups are first born, the panel is left off completely so that the mother can get in and out of the box very easily.

This is particularly helpful if she’s just had surgery. As the puppies get more mobile, you can drop the door to keep them inside. When the puppies are climbing out over the sides of the Whelping box it’s time to move them out.

Step 4.  The pig rails:

The purpose of the pig rails is to keep the puppy from being smashed between its mother and the side of the box. The puppy slides under the rail, and mom’s back just presses against the face of the rail. The puppies are attracted to the darkness under the pig rails. They will quickly learn that it’s safe place and spend most of their time there long before their eyes are open.

You can use 1×6 or 1×4 boards to run around the inner diameter of the box.

The height of the pig rail will vary for the size of the female. (between 5-6” off the base has seemed to work well for us)

Adding the pig rails

We cut two spacer blocks 5” tall as you can see in the photo above-and reused them under each rail to hold up them to the same height as we nailed them in.  Tip: do the two sides first, they will be the same size.  Then do the rear which will be shorter.

The Front of your whelping box

Finally the front. The front will be two small pieces the run up to the access door.

Bedding:

People like to use different things that they’ve have found to work well for them.

Aww Sookie Sookie Now (Sookie) Approves

We don’t keep our dogs outside, so to reduce smell, instead of wood chips we use old sheets from day one until the puppies become active.  During the first couple days while mom has discharge, we usually have a layer of old towels on top of the sheets. You may be able to get by with only a couple of changes a day… just plan on keeping the washer and dryer running. During the weaning process, Mom will lose interest in cleaning the puppies so the layer of old towels makes clean up a lot easier.

A thermometer near the box is also a very good idea. 78 to 80 degrees F is what we use for our new pups.  Watch the puppies to see what temperature they want… If they are always piled up, they are too cold. If they are always spread out, they are too warm.

All done! Finish your beer

Hope that this article helps someone build a whelping box that can save money, protect your newborn pups and makes whelping a litter just a little less stressful.

Mrs. Jacqueline over at Dawghouse Bullies is not only an excellent breeder, but she has a vast amount of knowledge on diet, health, nutrition and puppy care. We will be featuring more of her tips and articles in the future so stay tuned.. you’re not going to want to miss it!

Best Food & Supplements to Add Muscle to my Pit Bull or American Bully?

Let’s start this discussion by stating: There is no supplement that will make your dog break through it’s genetic limits.

Repeat that out loud.

Exercise is great, but strapping weights on your dog (unless competing in weight pull or other athletic events) and over feeding and over using supplements will probably cause more harm than good.

That being said, a proper diet and correct use of supplements and vitamins CAN help your dog reach THEIR full potential.

You aren’t going to get there with food alone, and stop wasting money on Supplements thinking you’re going to bypass genetics.

Genetics>Food, working out, weights, running etc.

A dog gets it’s genetic makeup from it’s parents, grandparents etc. Don’t expect to bypass genetics with food and supplements.

A good gauge to use when determining what your new puppy’s adult build may be is by looking at the parents and grandparents in the pedigree.

But even then, genetics are tricky and you’re not guaranteed the build you desire.

Now, onto the best food to feed your dog.. Every dog is different, some may have food allergies or get dry itchy skin from a food your past dogs didn’t have any issue with.

We will start with the Top Dry Foods. Raw can be an excellent choice and many prefer it, but raw feeding is another article entirely. When deciding on a food, look for one that has high quality, protein rich ingredients in the first couple ingredients listed.

Click below for a list of ingredients, review and overall rating. This should give you a good starting point to choose a solid food for your dog’s unique needs and one that fits within your budget. I usually add Fish Oil/Omega’s and a Multi vitamin. Order in bulk to save money.

Converting From Calories to Serving Size

Once you’ve entered your dog’s ideal weight and activity level, you’ll know the number of calories per day. However, to convert calories into something you can use, you’ll need to enter the number of calories in your dog’s food. The number of calories in a given amount of dog food is known as its metabolizable energy (ME, for short). It’s usually reported somewhere on a dog food package like this…

Calories per cup (kcal/cup)

Calories per kilogram (kcal/kilogram)

By the way, the calculator assumes you’re feeding your dog just once a day.

If you prefer to feed your dog twice a day, be sure to divide your result in half so that both meals add up to the full daily calories suggested.

If you prefer to feed your dog twice a day, be sure to divide your result in half so that both meals add up to the full daily calories suggested.

The Bottom Line

Since every dog is unique, it’s impossible to predict the serving size that’s perfect for each pet.

So, start with the package’s feeding instructions — or the amount suggested by our calculator. Be sure to weigh your dog every few weeks.

Then, simply adjust that suggested serving size up or down to reach and maintain your pet’s ideal weight.

Sure, it’s a little work. But in the end, it’s the only real life method you can scientifically rely on.

AMERICAN BULLY BREEDING: PREGNANCY BY THE WEEK

Louis V Line’s Venom pups in Australia Produced by Big Benefit Bullies

Female dogs (bitches) generally give birth around 63 days after conception, with a few variations between 56 and 70 days depending on the exact time of fertilization in relation to mating. This step by step guide tells you what to expect during your dog’s pregnancy and gives you practical advice and important information to help things run smoothly.

Before considering pregnancy for your bitch there are a few important factors to consider. It is recommended that all vaccinations should be up to date for the duration of the pregnancy and feeding (lactating) period, so check with your vet about this before you mate your bitch. You should also not allow your bitch to have puppies until she is fully grown and mature herself.

For most breeds of dog, having a litter of puppies is not recommend until the bitch is at least 2 years of age. Equally, it is not advisable to breed a bitch that is too old. Many vets recommend the ideal age for delivering a litter as being between 2 and 5 years old but the upper limit will depend on your dog, their breed and reproductive history and your vet’s specific advice. You should also consult your vet, an experienced breeder or the Kennel Club with whom your dog is registered for advice on any screening or precautionary measures that are advised for your particular breed of dog before you commit to breeding.

1. Mating

Mating between dogs is often preceded by a courting phase during which they play. Penetration can occur rapidly though, sometimes in under a minute. There may be a number of attempts, particularly if the partners are lacking in experience.

The male mounts the bitch and penetrates her, prompting a vaginal reflex that traps the male until the act of mating is complete. This lock phenomenon can keep the two dogs together for 15 to 30 minutes and may look odd to us, especially if the male does a 180 degree turn! It is important not to try separating them at this point by any means, as this could cause damage.

The mating process does not necessarily mean that fertilisation was successful; it may have taken place at a time when the bitch’s fertility had not yet reached its peak. Equally, the sperm can survive in the uterus for up to seven days, so fertilisation may take place several days after mating. To increase the chances of a pregnancy occurring, mating is often carried out twice, with a two day interval between the attempts. Some breeders also use a series of progesterone blood tests for their bitch, (which are available at most veterinary surgeries), to identify the optimum window of fertility for their bitch before taking her for mating.

Fertilization

Gestation begins when the female’s ova (eggs) are fertilised by the male spermatozoa (sperm). The fertilised egg is the first component of a new living being!

The embryos start off very high up in the uterus, but towards the end of the first week they migrate down towards the uterine horns. Here they float around within the uterine liquid.

2. Maintenance

When your dog’s heat has come to an end you may groom her as usual. The embryos are well protected in the uterus and gentle grooming (avoiding any stress) should not cause any concerns.

During this initial phase of gestation (from mating until around day 35) the goal is to maintain your dog’s ideal weight. Early weight gain is not recommended for optimal health. Weight gain during the first 42 days should not exceed 10% of the ideal weight. Your dog’s energy requirements remain stable at this point, the embryos do not develop greatly (in terms of their size) and no nutritional change is required, unless recommended by your vet.

If the bitch is being fed an appropriate, balanced and complete diet no vitamin or mineral supplements are required during gestation (unless your vet has specifically prescribed otherwise).

3. Nidation

Embryos embedded in uterine lining

The embryos become embedded in the uterine lining where they will subsequently develop. They will be progressively enveloped in a protective membrane that provides them with the necessary supply of nutrients.

4. Confirm gestation (pregnancy)

Visit your vet around day 28, as they can perform an ultrasound to establish a reliable diagnosis of pregnancy. This will give you some idea of the size of the litter (although detecting exact numbers is often not possible), as well as potentially detecting any abnormalities.

Alternatively, your vet can also diagnose gestation by doing a blood test to determine the level of relaxin, a hormone only created by the placenta. Whichever method your vet chooses, it is very useful to confirm your dog’s pregnancy as early as possible in order to properly monitor her condition.

5. Foetal stage

Day 35 marks the end of embryogenesis (the first phase of gestation). The organs are now all beginning to form, and we now refer to the embryo as a foetus. During this foetal phase (and in particular from the 40th day onwards) the foetus’ weight will increase by around 75%.

6. The turning point

From day 42 the pace changesand the changes are rapid!

As your bitch enters the third and final phase of gestation, the foetus is developing fast. Claws will be developing, the skeleton begins to solidify, and the foetus will gain weight rapidly.

As a result, your dog’s nutritional requirements will change, as she now requires a diet with higher energy, protein and mineral content. It may seem contradictory, but you may well observe a drop in her appetite as her distended abdomen may make eating normal meals harder for her. Getting her to eat the right food is essential and offering her several smaller meals throughout the day, instead of 2 larger meals, may also help if you find she is not eating enough to maintain a good body condition.

7. Hair

By day 45 the foetus’ first hairs will start to appear, and the skeleton begins to ossify (solidify). The coat and bones are some of the last areas to develop.

Worming

Parasites are a concern, as they have the potential to infect the puppies at birth. It is therefore essential to make an appointment with your vet to have your bitch wormed.

The vet will advise you on which product to use.

Prepare for whelping

To avoid being caught by surprise, start preparing the place for your bitch to whelp as early as you can. The chosen place must be quiet and removed from the hustle and bustle of the household.

Don’t forget that the room must be kept warm, as newborns need heat. The floor must be easy to clean. The mother and pups will need to use this place for a few weeks, well away from any excitement so as not to disturb suckling.

8. X-ray

Around day 50 the foetus’ skeleton will have ossified, so you may choose to ask your vet whether they feel it is necessary to perform an x-ray.

In many cases, an x-ray will confirm the number of foetuses; so when it comes to whelping this will reassure you that all puppies have been delivered. Some vets may not feel an x-ray is necessary, however.

Check the bedding

Check that you have enough linen to change the bedding in the whelping area regularly. Linen must be completely dry when you use it. Make sure you have an extra heater available to provide a safe source of warmth, without risking burning the puppies or creating draughts but ensuring an ideal temperature when they are born. The room should ideally be around 24–26°C during the first week, because puppies can’t regulate their body temperature at birth. Adequate humidity levels should also be maintained.

Milk

Milk begins to flow from the bitch’s teats about one week prior to whelping. This is not, however, reliable in determining the date of whelping.

Even though it is comforting to see that your dog will be able to feed her puppies, make sure you have goat milk on hand. DO NOT use regular milk from your fridge.  Mix 1/2 goats milk and 1/2 water. If you have bootleg water in your area like Florida or some of the other states use purified water. Warm it up to room temperature, but not hot.

This is specially developed to help you cope with any feeding problems or failure in milk production by the mother. Read the instructions and the advice on hygiene. Having milk in stock before the puppies arrive will make things a lot easier for you if you do have to feed the puppies yourself.

9. Final countdown

By instinct, the bitch will seek out a quiet place to make her nest and may seem on edge; don’t be worried by this. If you haven’t done so already, set up the whelping nest in the selected place, well away from any excitement and somewhere that is easy for her to reach and get used to sleeping in. It’s a good idea to line a box with thick layers of newspaper so that she’s properly insulated from the floor. You can cover the papers with clean towels or sheets or any other material to make it comfortable; the linen and lining paper will have to be frequently changed once the pups are born.

Unless you think it will cause too much stress, it is advisable to ensure that the rear end and the teats of the bitch are clean and easily accessible so that she can give birth and feed her pups in the most hygienic conditions possible. If she has long hair, you can carefully clear the area around the vulva and teats using round tipped scissors.

To avoid being taken by surprise, take her temperature three times a day. A drop of around 1°C compared to the average of the previous day is often a sign that labour is about to start; as the drop typically occurs within 48 hours of whelping.

Pre-birth checklist

  • Whelping nest is set up in a quiet place in the house.
  • Whelping room temperature: the ideal temperature is not set in stone and differing sources have different recommendations. Most sources cite a minimum room temperature of around 30°C1 as being recommended for the first 24 hours of life, thereafter dropping to around 26°C1.
  • Tin of puppy milk in stock, just in case.
  • Clean linen and/or towels, to change the bed after whelping.
  • Disposable gloves.
  • Kitchen paper.
  • Scales to weigh the puppies.
  • Note down the phone number of your vet.

Whelping (giving birth)

Generally, most bitches manage very well by themselves. Your role mainly consists of providing her with quiet surroundings and your comforting presence. But if you do have any concerns in advance, do ask your vet for advice.

Labour can last from just a few minutes to several hours. Check on your bitch every 15 minutes or so to make sure everything is going smoothly, taking care not to show her if you are worried.

Once the first puppy is delivered, if your bitch doesn’t tear open the foetal sack herself you can do it yourself wearing disposable gloves over clean hands. Subsequent puppies will be born within anything from a few minutes to four hours later.

Typically, most puppies will be born within 1–2 hours of the last puppy, although greater variation can occur. Remember it is normal for some of the puppies to be born with their back feet first, in what is often (incorrectly in dogs) described as the “breech” position (this is actually when the bottom is delivered first, with back feet tucked forwards).

Don’t worry if your bitch eats the placenta as soon as it is expelled, this is normal.

What to do

  • Check progress regularly.
  • Call your vet if the contractions are unproductive or if you are worried.
  • If you need to invigorate a newborn puppy, rub it gently with a towel.

What NOT to do

  • Never pull the puppies, especially by the paws, to help their expulsion, this could cause serious damage.
  • Never put the puppies in cold water, it is unlikely you will need to use water for the puppies at all in the first few weeks, unless it has been recommended by your vet.
  • Never use a hairdryer, as there is a real risk of burns and dehydration.

The History of Notorious Juan Gotty & Gottiline

The Gottiline Pit bull Bloodline, otherwise known as the Gotti Pitbulls, Gottyline or Gotty Pitbulls have become one of the most popular bloodlines in American Bully Community. This bloodline was started by Richard Barajas of West Side Kennels. He actually owned the first sire, The Notorious Juan Gotty.

Back in 1997 he bought Gotty for an amount of $1,300, from Tony Moore. Richard probably didn’t know at the time what a great buy Juan Gotty was. Tony owned Grey Line Kennels in Los Angeles. The Greyline foundation female was named Showtime. Showtime was the mother of Gotty’s father, “R Greyline’s Raider 2.  Raider passed away when Gotty was only 7 weeks old.

This was just the beginning for Gotty’s long line of fantastic foundations. If you’ve heard these names, Coldens Blue Rhino, Felony, Pate’s Blue Beast, Gottiline’s Monster, Do Good Big Boy, New Trojan’s Dillinger, and many others.

These are just some of the foundations of Gotty. In all, Gotty has sired more than 900 UKC registered American Pit bull Terriers. Starting out with Juan Gotty, the Gottiline bloodline not only spread all across the US, but also the world including China, but also Canada, Japan and the Philippines. Gotty will be known in history as one of the bully style movement’s greatest dogs.

So, the Gottiline Pit bull Bloodline is named after The Notorious Juan Gotty. Only the “y” was changed to an “i”. The look of the Gotti is very distinctive. They are usually fairly easy to tell apart from other pit bull bloodlines. A Gotti pit bull has tons of mass and is very stocky with lots of girth.

They are sometimes heavier, thicker and shorter than other pit bulls. The head is brick-like. It is extremely broad right between the cheeks, and the head sits on a well-defined and amazingly thick muscled neck. The broad distance between those cheeks is created to house those powerful jaws.

Many pit bull lovers say that they can’t tell the difference between a Razors Edge Pit bull and a Gottiline Pit bull. A trained eye can tell the difference. Their coloring may often have oil spotting or oil specking on the coat. This is very apparent on a white Gotti. This isn’t always the case, but there are many that have this feature that doesn’t appear in Razors Edge.

The personality of the Gotti is one of a good temperament. With pit bulls still carrying the reputation of being dangerous and aggressive dogs, the Gotti is actually the absolute opposite. These pits are bred without the aggression and fight that pit bulls were used for in the past. Now they are considered to be loving pets in anyone’s home. They are good with children and even other dogs if the dogs were raised together. The Gotti will be loyal to his family and property and will used his strength and power to protect both.

There are other bloodlines that are related to the Gottiline pit bull bloodline. Gotti is the foundation for Mikeland’s Kracker and Gator and also Kingpinline’s Goliath. Besides these unique lines, he is also the foundation for many of the bully pit bulls that weigh more than 90-100lbs., considered to be the XL pitbulls. On the other side of the scale, Gotti is also the foundation for many pocket pitbulls that weigh less than 60lbs.

Juan Gotty has created many unique and diverse kinds of pit bulls and played a huge role in the development of our newer breed, the American Bully. Yet each one is exceptional in its’ own way. They each have unique qualities and factors that make them special.

Notorious Juan Gotty is a legend in the dog game and probably the most well known in the movement of the bully pitbull (what people were beginning to call the pit bulls carrying the dense bone, blocky head and added muscle mass during the creation of the American Bully before it was a recognized breed.) No matter what the size of the Gottiline Pit bull, the bone, head and extreme girth are usually factors in this particular bloodline.

There are too many dogs with Notorious Juan Gotty in the pedigree to list, but a few of the more famous dogs in the beginning of the development of our breed are Cali Kingpin’s Goliath II (G2) and Gottiline’s Dax
