ADVANTAGES TO USING A STUD DOG

Many that get started in the dog breeding business usually purchase a stud dog or two along with some female dogs. As Venomline discussed in American Bully Breeding 101, the better way of going about this is to start off by purchasing female dogs.

When your female reaches breeding age you can contact the kennels that offer stud service or contact the kennel you purchased your female puppy from to use their Studs.

Housing, feeding, and taking care of stud dogs is expensive and you’re not always guaranteed to have a great stud dog once they mature.

FINDING AN AMERICAN BULLY STUD

There are many ways to find a Top American Bully Stud — these can include in person events like dog shows hosted by the ABKCUKCBRC, a search on any of the online pedigree database like BullypediaBullyPedex or BullyDex.

These can be especially useful if you’re considering line breeding and looking for a common ancestor. Lastly, through word of mouth or by traveling to the Stud Owner to see the Stud in person. Breeders that photoshop their dogs will do just about anything possible in order to avoid having their Customers seeing their dogs in person. It’s understandable if Top Stud owner is busy, but most will make time for their Customers who are traveling down.

If you get a resistance when asking if you can see the Stud in person for the breeding — this is usually a red flag. Not every Stud dog online is what they look like in photos.

DECIDING ON AMERICAN BULLY STUD

GETTING DETAILED PEDIGREE INFORMATION

Choosing a Stud is a big decision and one that can set up your kennel for success. Be sure to get detailed pedigree information on the dogs to ensure that you are getting a quality linebred dog (meaning the same ancestors appear more than once in the 4 generation pedigree)

Linebred and inbred Studs will usually produce more consistent litters than a scatterbred one. Kennels that have been around for a while and have quality productions will usually linebreed.

All Studs at Venomline are linebred or inbred, health tested, DNA-Profiled and carry all colors including every tri color variation and bred to produce.

But don’t take our word for it — always check a Stud’s Productions.

WHAT TO LOOK FOR IN AN AMERICAN BULLY STUD

LINEBRED/INBRED VS SCATTERBRED

As mentioned above — linebred and inbred Studs have a higher likelihood of passing on traits to their offspring. By using a linebred or inbred Stud over a scatterbred one — the results become apparent in the quality and consistency of a litter.

It’s not difficult to figure out why — basic genetics & simple math: a dog that carries more copies of the desired genes — will have a higher likelihood of passing on them on to their offspring.

NOT ALL LINEBRED/INBRED DOGS MAKE GREAT STUD DOGS

Venomline’s Savage — 2X Venom

Now this doesn’t mean that all inbred and linebred dogs make great Sires. There are plenty of disasters of linebred/inbred Studs all over the place.

A quick scroll through any of the bully groups on Facebook and you’ll find there’s no shortage of examples. Take a look at any of the exotic bully groups if you really want to see some mistakes.

SETTING TRAITS

ABKC Champion Homicide — 2X GrCh Chumper

It’s important to understand that inbreeding and linebreeding are tools used to set traits. But, like the benefits, there’s also downside to closely related breedings. Inbreeding can be a double edged sword that can cause a lot of issues if done irresponsibly.

These types of breedings should only be carried out by experienced breeders that have a full understanding of the risks involved.

To avoid the COI (Coefficient of Inbreeding) from getting too high, an outcross os recommended immediately following an inbreeding.

INBREEDING & LINEBREEDING

ABKC Champion Venomline’s Lil’ Ting | 2X Venom

The word inbreeding carries with it a negative connotation by those unfamiliar with dog breeding, but the best examples of nearly every recognized breed since man domesticated the dog — have been the direct result of careful selection, linebreeding and inbreeding.

Again, inbreeding is done to set traits. But be aware that this doesn’t mean you’re just doubling up on the good, You’re also doubling up on the bad — this includes negative recessive traits and/or genetic disease. Ones that you may not have been aware even existed.

SHOW DOGS VS BROOD STOCK

Venomline’s King Koopa (2X Venom son)

Another common mistake that’s often made is assuming that just because a dog is a show dog, a Champion or just a good looking dog — that this automatically makes them a suitable Stud.

Just because a dog carries “type” or is proven in the Show ring — this includes Champion & Grand Champions — does not automatically mean that they will be great Stud dogs.

COMMON MISTAKES

Avoid common mistakes that can be costly when starting out — by going with a reliable breeder. There are plenty of Stud owners that will be happy to take you money — but not all of them will deliver. This is especially true when importing semen Internationally. Stud owners who aren’t experienced Shipping Internationally — aren’t always familiar with the testing requirements to import.

Each country has different import requirements and testing that’s required that has to be completed (often within a specific timeframe). If the required testing isn’t completed within this set time frame — or if the breeding units aren’t prepared, packaged or labeled correctly — the shipment can end up getting held up in customs with some not even making it into the country. It happens more than you’d expect.

So while some of the breeders may not have bad intentions — many will end up not being able to get shipments into the Customer’s country — and providing the services that they were paid for. Others are outright scams.

Avoid these issues by choosing an experienced breeder with a good reputation. One that can provide referrals of Customers that have successfully imported semen into your country. Be sure that your shipment is insured as protection in the event a tank goes missing or is held up by Customs.

Lastly, all details of the transaction, payment amount and exactly what the Stud owner agrees to provide for the amount paid in Contract.

MISTAKES TO AVOID

  • Inexperienced/Unreliable Breeders
  • Scams
  • International — Breeders are often quick to accept money from a Customer but aren’t always familiar or experienced with the different countries’ import requirements
  • Insurance
  • Contract

RESERVING A STUD

Deciding on an American Bully Stud should be an exciting and stress free process. Choosing the right stud & kennels or bloodlines to work with are 2 key factors that play a huge role in determining how likely you are to become a successful american bully breeder.

The first step in reserving a Stud is usually to contact the Stud owner. Quality programs usually require approval of the female. The approval process is usually pretty straight forward: send a few photos of the female as well as her pedigree.

If you don’t have an online pedigree set up, send a screenshot of the front and inside of your registration paperwork to the Stud owner. Once the female is approved, Studs can usually be reserved by leaving a deposit. A deposit “locks-in” a Stud’s current rate. If a Stud’s fee goes up — you’re still locked in at the rate when you reserved the Stud.

Deposits for quality Studs are typically $1000.

Venomline Studs can be reserved by leaving a deposit or Customers can pay for the Stud in full (up front) to receive discounted rates.

STEPS TO RESERVE A STUD DOG

  • Initial Contact
  • Approval of female
  • Payment to reserve- Deposit to lock-in current rate, paid in full (up front discount)

STUD CONTRACT

  • Terms

  • # of puppies considered a litter
  • Repeat Breedings

WHEN TO CONTACT STUD OWNER

Contact the Stud owner as soon as your female begins her heat. Most Stud owners count 1st drops of blood as day 1 of heat. Give the Stud owner a call or shoot them a quick text so they’re aware that your female has begun her heat cycle.

Good stud owners will walk their Customers through the entire process, making it stress free.

Always give the stud owner a heads up — nothing drives a Stud owner crazier than the Customer who texts or calls last minute, without prior mention that the female is even in heat and without previous progesterone results — “she’s ready. Go ahead and send it out.”

PROGESTERONE TESTING

Looking on the internet for information on progesterone testing is a nightmare. It’s nearly impossible to find information on what the #’s mean, or what numbers that would be ideal for breeding. Several websites will offer different advice and many vets aren’t helpful at all.

WHEN TO BEGIN PROGESTERONE TESTING

We recommend scheduling a first progesterone test beginning on day 4 or 5 of her heat. We count day 1 of heat as when the female first drops blood.

  • Day 1 of heat cycle is counted as the 1st day a female in heat drops blood.
  • Schedule a pre-breeding exam and/or 1st progesterone test for day 4–5 of heat.
  • Test regularly and communicate with the Stud Owner

UNDERSTANDING PROGESTERONE RESULTS

Progesterone results typically come in 2 forms: IDEXX and MiniVidas

  • IDEXX
  • Mini Vidas

AT WHAT PROGESTERONE LEVEL WILL FEMALES BE READY TO BE BRED?

There is no single exact number for determining the time of ovulation; we are looking for a number between 4ng/ml to 8ng/ml as the start of ovulation. Most typical bitches ovulate around 5ng/ml.

To keep things simple — we count ovulation as occurring between 5–5.5

FINDING THE BEST BREEDING DAY(S)

Once you’ve determined the day of ovulation, you now know (approximately) when the female has dropped her eggs. Remember, ovulation is when the female releases her eggs, it still takes 48–72 hours before those eggs are mature enough to be fertilized.

THE BEST BREEDING DAY(S) WILL BE DETERMINED BY THE METHOD OF BREEDING & WHETHER LIVE, FRESH CHILLED OR FROZEN SEMEN IS USED:

  • Natural Ties
  • Live Breeding/Side by Side AI
  • Regular AI w/Shipped Fresh Chilled
  • TCI
  • Surgical insemination (Surgical AI)

Ask your vet if they perform Surgical AI and TCI beforehand so you know your options.

TYPES OF ARTIFICIAL INSEMINATION (AI’S)

Artificial insemination (AI) can be performed by a number of different methods and utilizing sperm from fresh, extended or frozen sources.

  • Regular AI
  • TCI
  • Surgical Insemination

1. LIVE/SIDE BY SIDE AI (REGULAR AI)

Regular AI’s — sometimes referred to as side-by-side AI’s use fresh semen, but instead of the male depositing sperm inside the female, our repro specialist will collect the semen and then inserts it into the female.

The timing for natural mating and side-by-side AI is more forgiving because fresh semen can live within the uterus for 5–6 days.

  • 24–48 hours (1–2 days) after progesterone reaches 5ng/ml.
  • Skip a day and do a 2nd AI if you have the option available to you

2. TRANS-CERVICAL INSEMINATION (TCI)

Trans-cervical insemination is a method to deliver sperm directly into the uterus, bypassing the cervix. The advantage is the same as the surgical intrauterine method of insemination (commonly called an implant). Many sperm may not penetrate the cervix after a routine vaginal insemination. This can be especially true for frozen or chilled semen, or in cases of bitch or stud dog decreased fertility

3. SURGICAL INSEMINATION (SURGICAL AI)

Surgical Insemination is a good choice for older females, females with poor fertility (those that have had trouble becoming pregnant) and those with uterine pathology. An incision is made into the abdomen and the semen is injected into the base both horns.

Conception rates can be as high as 80–85% when the estrus cycle has been appropriately managed.

FRESH CHILLED SEMEN

NATURAL BREEDING\REGULAR AI W/FRESH SEMEN

  • Begin 12-24 hours after ovulation
  • Skip a day/follow w/2nd breeding if the option is available

TCI W/FRESH CHILLED SEMEN

  • 24–48 hours (2 days) after progesterone reaches 5ng/ml.

SURGICAL AI WITH FRESH-CHILLED SEMEN

  • 48–72 hours after progesterone reaches 5ng/ml

FROZEN SEMEN

SURGICAL INSEMINATION IS REQUIRED FOR SURGICAL INSEMINATION (AI)

  • 72 hours (3 days) after progesterone reaches 5ng/ml.

TESTS TO COMPLETE AHEAD OF BREEDING

The following are tests to complete with your breeding female ahead of the breeding date (before stud owner ships)

  • Pre-Breeding Checkup/Screen
  • Brucellosis
  • Rabies Vaccine
  • Heart

These tests are not all required by american bully breeders, but we recommended testing for those wanting more information on the soundness of their breeding bitch. Look for Elongated Soft Palate, trachea, or any heart or joint abnormalities.

GENETIC TESTING IN THE AMERICAN BULLY BREED

Venomline’s Dolce | 2X Venom Daughter

AMERICAN BULLY DNA-TESTING

Genetic testing can give you a better idea of any recessive traits your dog carries and if your dog is a “carrier” of any negative recessives that could come to light if bred to another dog that’s a carrier of the same issue. But, test results in the wrong hands or by someone without a full understanding of canine genetics and knowledge on the diseases which are even expressed in the american bully breed can also be problematic.

CRD is a great example of genetic disease that can show up on test results but haven’t been expressed in our breed.

Some may remember the hysteria in Australia over Embark test results.

HOW DO I TELL IF MY FEMALE IS PREGNANT?

WAYS TO FIND OUT IF YOUR FEMALE IS PREGNANT

  • Ultrasound
  • X-Ray

CONFIRMATION OF PREGNANCY

Once the breeding is complete, barring any recommended follow up appointments — usually only the case surgical insemination (surgical AI) the next appointment won’t be for another 30 days. Some vets will recommend coming back in 3 weeks, but the honest ones will tell you — they can’t see much at 21 days.

Schedule an appointment for ultrasound confirmation 30 days after the insemination. The ultrasound is good for “confirming” the breeding, but it’s difficult to get a count. Use the ultrasound appointment to find out if the breeding was a success. The next appointment won’t be for another few weeks, and that’s the X-ray to get a count. Some vets do them earlier, we usually wait until around day 56–57 to get a count and schedule the c-section.

Do not try and have the litter naturally, with the American Bully breed — you always want to do c-section delivery. One puppy getting lodged in the birth canal is all it takes to lose an entire litter and jeopardize the health of your female.

  • Ultrasound at 30 days
  • X-Ray for Count

PROVIDING STUD SERVICE WITH YOUR DOG

For those fortunate enough to have produced or purchased a nice male — there will probably come a time when people begin to ask about Stud Service. If you’ve never provided Stud Service before, this can seem like an overwhelming task at first.

But, if you prepare before offering Stud Service & collecting Customer money — and you do things the right way — you can produce quality offspring and build a happy Customer base. You can also make additional income. With the right dog that is. Without the right dog — a quality Stud with a great pedigree — you’ll be be out as soon as you get started.

VENOMLINE STUDS

THE EXTREME BUILD POCKET AMERICAN BULLY STUDS OF VENOMLINE

The Venomline Bloodline is home to some of the world’s most sought after Studs.

All of the Extreme Build Pocket American Bully Studs at Venomline are inbred or tightly linebred to produce the most consistent litters. Our Studs exhibit breed type and carry extreme features without being overdone.

Venomline Studs carry the Daxline signature headpiece, muscular neck, shoulders and build. Our Studs differ from many other kennels in that addition to carrying extreme features, they’re also extremely short & compact with short backs.

Many of the Extreme Studs today look great until they turn to the side. There’s a lot of super long dogs and for us that’s a big “no.”

While the majority of breeders and kennels have finally come to their senses with the realization that “type” should be at the very top of the list when choosing a Stud and that without it — it’s becoming increasingly difficult for many to win in the show ring — many breeders have begun to search out and select Extreme build Studs for their breeding programs.

In addition to of the Stud dogs here at Venomline also carry all colors including all tri color variations.

VENOMLINE FEMALES

THE FEMALES OF VENOMLINE

Venomline females are known for being some of the “bulliest” and most Extreme females on the planet. But what separates us from many other breeders are the females used as part of our breeding program.

It’s simple to use a top Stud, anyone can do that… but at Venomline, we know that it takes both a Top level Stud and a Top Level bitch to produce quality litters on a consistent basis.

We’ll put our females up against any lineup in the World.

FOUNDATION & THE NEXT GENERATION FEMALES

It’s fairly easy to add mass and Extreme features, what’s not easy is producing it on a complete american bully. One with angulation along with a thick strong rear on a dog that may exhibit extreme traits but is still functional. If a dog can’t run and play, in our opinion.. that’s a failure.

There are not too many kennels that are currently combining the “wow factor” and extreme traits desired in the breed while also producing balanced dogs from head to rear that are fully functional and athletic for the breed and still able to excel in the show ring.

Here you’ll find Foundation Females that are linebred to produce.

The result can be seen in our productions

TCI W/FRESH CHILLED SEMEN

  • 24–48 hours (1-2 days) after progesterone reaches 5ng/ml.

SURGICAL AI WITH FRESH-CHILLED SEMEN

  • 48–72 hours after progesterone reaches 5ng/ml

FROZEN SEMEN

  • 72 hours (3 days) after progesterone reaches 5ng/ml.

TESTING TO COMPLETE AHEAD OF BREEDING

  • Pre-Breeding Checkup/Screen
  • Brucellosis
  • Rabies Vaccine
  • Heart

Not required, but recommended testing for those wanting more information on the soundness of their breeding bitch. Soft Palate, trachea, heart, joint abnormalities.

GENETIC TESTING IN THE AMERICAN BULLY BREED

Venomline’s Dolce | 2X Venom Daughter

Genetic testing can give you a better idea of any recessive traits your dog carries and if your dog is a “carrier” of any negative recessives that could come to light if bred to another dog that’s a carrier of the same issue.

But test results in the wrong hands or by someone without a full understanding of canine genetics and knowledge on the diseases which are even expressed in the american bully breed can also be problematic.

CRD is a great example of genetic disease that can show up on test results but haven’t been expressed in our breed.

Some may remember the hysteria in Australia over Embark test results.

IMPORTANT THINGS TO CONSIDER

  • Stud Credit Expiration
  • Purchasing Stud Credit w/partner or Co-own
  • Switching of Female
  • Re-Sale of Stud Credit
  • In the Event something happens to Stud owner..

HOW TO TELL IF YOUR FEMALE IS PREGNANT

HOW TO TELL IF YOUR AMERICAN BULLY IS PREGNANT

C-SECTION IN THE AMERICAN BULLY BREED

SCHEDULING THE C-SECTION

Always opt for C-Section with the American Bully Breed. Schedule an appt with the Vet 56-57 days after insemination appointment for a Check-Up to determine the best day for the Vet to perform the C-Section. We do X-Rays around this time for a count to find out exactly how many pups are in there and to make sure we see that exact # come out. You’d be surprised at the # of times we’ve seen Vets leave one in accidentally. Schedule an X-Ray for count ahead of the C-Section.

ITEMS TO BRING TO C-SECTION

  • Laundry basket
  • Fresh towels
  • Bulb Syringe (Aspirator)
  • Goats Milk (buy A LOT) only Meyenberg liquid no powder brands
  • Baby bottles
  • Heating pad

ITEMS TO REQUEST FROM VET BEFORE LEAVING

  • Oxytocin
  • Liquid Antibiotics

NEWBORN PUPPIES

PROPER CARE FOR NEWBORN AMERICAN BULLY PUPPIES

  • 1st Milk — Colostrum
  • Separate from mom keep in laundry basket w/heating pad
  • Fluid in Lungs
  • Pinching behind ears to clear lungs
  • Bulb Syringe
  • “Swinging” puppies

WHELPING AMERICAN BULLY PUPPIES

WHELPING BOX

  • Separate from mom at beginning – For the 1st 2 weeks keep pups in laundry basket with towels and heating pad underneath. Do not leave newborn pups in with mom for the 1st 2 weeks. This is a simple solution that will prevent you from losing puppies due to being squished, suffocated and it also helps pups regulate their temps. After 2 weeks, your puppies will be string enough to move on their own if they are caught in a compromising situation.
  • Roll bars

FEEDING PUPPIES

  • Nursing on mom
  • Goats milk

WEANING

Weaning is transitioning your puppies diet from it’s mother’s milk to the solid growth diet of puppyhood. In the wild, weaning begins naturally as soon as the puppies start to develop their teeth, typically at three to four weeks of age. We begin to wean our puppies and introduce

  • Transitioning from nursing on mom to eating on their own
  • Making “mush”
  • Introducing dry food

PROVIDING STUD SERVICES WITH YOUR DOG

For those fortunate enough to have produced or purchased a nice male — there will probably come a time when people begin to ask about Stud Service. If you’ve never provided Stud Service before, this can seem like an overwhelming task at first.

But, if you prepare before offering Stud Service & collecting Customer money — and you do things the right way — you can produce quality offspring and build a happy Customer base. You can also make additional income. With the right dog that is. Without the right dog — a quality Stud with a great pedigree — you’ll be be out as soon as you get started.

Everyone with a male thinks their dog is Stud dog. This isn’t the case.

MARKETING YOUR STUD DOG

Anyone can hype up a Stud.. but if the Stud ain’t producing, those same Customers aren’t coming back.

VENOMLINE STUDS

All puppies are cute. It’s the end result — how they mature and develop into what they look like at maturity — that separates the best american bully breeders from the pack.

PURCHASING AN AMERICAN BULLY PUPPY

When I first begin my research into the breed, long before making the decision to purchase an American Bully — I looked up everything I could possibly find on the breed. If it was online, in print or pertaining to the breed, I was all over it. I was definitely interested. I loved the look, personality and temperament of the bully breeds, but found myself most drawn to both the american bully and Olde English Bulldogge.

TEMPERAMENT, PERSONALITY, TRAITS, HEALTH & LIFESPAN

Purchasing a puppy is a huge decision and I wanted to find out as much as possible about each of the breeds which would be the best fit for our family and lifestyle. Another important factor influencing my decision was selecting a breed that was gentle, calm and patient. Especially with young children. I started with the basics first — researching everything from temperament, to personality, health and lifespan.

I was fascinated by the American Bully, but curious as to how a breed of dog that resembled more of a bodybuilder than pet — one with such a fierce and intimidating look — could be so gentle, loving and great with children. After nearly a decade experience with this breed, I can tell you this — they absolutely adore them. Our 8 year old 108lb Standard bully has been sleeping with our son since he was 4 years old.

Who needs a night light when you’ve got a bully?

NEVER JUDGE A BOOK BY IT’S COVER

King V like his dad.. is afraid of heights

It was the “look” of the american bully that first got my attention, but the breed’s gentle nature, loving personality and silly quirks that sold me. This is truly an incredible breed! Despite their tough exterior, they are a gentle natured, sweet, playful and soft-hearted breed.

BIT BY THE “BULLY BUG?”

Like many new bully owners, I fell in love with the breed and the new addition to our family. I got bit by the “bully bug” and I was hooked. I wanted to find out more, and learn as much as possible about our new furry friend and his lineage. This led me to begin researching pedigrees and looking my dog’s ancestry. Inevitably I wound up on several different breeder’s websites.

When the time came and we were ready to add a second bully, I knew that I wanted something related to my boy. But I also wanted to see how the breeder’s puppies looked like as adults. Very few american bully breeders would provide any update or follow-up on their dogs after they’ve left as puppies. I was willing to spend good money, but for the right dog. I couldn’t seem to find any adult productions off Sires on the litters I was interested in. The puppies were cute, but how did they mature?

“What do they look like now, as adults?”

2X Venom Meets Mye-Stro! In this incredible matchup, Venom daughter Khaleesi was bred to Double L’s Mye-Stro producing Venomline’s Xena. We then bred Xena (in accordance to Brackett’s method) back to her grandfather Louis V Line’s Venom. The result was spectacular.

SAVAGE X STORM

These 2X Venom pups are super short & compact, extremely thick with dense bone and have some of the best heads/headshapes we’ve produced.

The puppies produced in this litter are not only structurally nearly flawless, they also carry every color! On top of that, they also carry all tri color variations. For the very first time: 2X Venom meets Big Red, Louis V meets GrCh Rockomania.

RECENT CUSTOMER LITTERS

CUSTOMER LITTER #1: KING V X FENDI

This colorful litter was Produced by Bullistic Label Bullies using Venomline’s King V at stud. I always enjoy when our customers bring their litters by for us to see. Gives me a chance to evaluate the consistency and quality in our studs productions with outside blood, and also gives me an opportunity to spend time with and get to know our customers.

Id like to give a huge shoutout to Bullistic Label Bullies for bringing their King V litter over and coming to see the dogs in person.

CUSTOMER LITTER #2: KING V X DALLAS MARIE

We were able to see another one of our stud’s litters as Rigg Tuff Bullies brought their King V litter down for photos and to meet the parents. This was another litter where King V was brought to different blood. The Dam is a Venom grandaughter (Sire to the dam was Khaleesi’s littermate) with Lucky Luciano on the bottom half of the pedigree.

ABKC Champions Venomline’s Lil’ Ting (left) & Khaleesi (right)

Different blood, same result. Boned up structurally sound pocket american bullies with flashy colors. I liked both litters so much, I offered to purchase one of the females. Unfortunately the first litter was already sold out, but I found the perfect female in Rigg Tuff Bullies litter full of hitters.

You know your stud is producing quality when you can’t help but buy one of his offspring. We haven’t named her yet, but the blue tri female pictured below will be joining the camp and moving in with dad King V and grandpa Venom!

THE VENOMLINE BLOODLINE

THE WORLD’S BEST EXTREME BUILD POCKET BULLIES

Originally from Houston, Texas, we are now located in sunny South Florida.

We are proud to have in-house and to have produced several ABKC Pocket American Bully Champions. Our dogs have been featured in Rolling Stone Magazine, BULLY KING Magazine, Bully Girl Magazine, in Music Videos and on television (NBC, Barcroft Animals)

Venomline is known for producing some of the thickest dogs in the world, without sacrificing conformation or health. Our dogs are known for having massive heads, dense bone, broad chests, wide shoulders, short muzzles, and being packed rock solid with muscle on short & compact frames.

We are different than most kennels in the fact that we do not use a traditional kennel set up. Our dogs sleep in beds and are a part of our family, not kept locked up in kennels all day. We pride ourselves in producing dogs that have “wow” factor along with great temperament and athleticism despite the heavy muscle/bone they carry.

Our dogs are DNA & Health Tested, pups come with health certificate, ABKC registration paperwork, shots & de-worming as well as a health guarantee covering any genetic related issues. We ship semen (Stud Service) worldwide. View our World Class Studs. We are also experienced and familiar with the import process and regulations for shipping semen to any country.

Venomline (South Florida) is proud to announce the opening of our 2nd location- Venomline South located in North Carolina.

THE FEMALES OF VENOMLINE

QUALITY FEMALES ARE INTEGRAL TO A BREEDING PROGRAM’S SUCCESS

American Bully Females are integral to the success of any breeding program. Without using quality females to pair with Top Studs, litters more than likely just end up being a watered down version of what was initially intended.

Venom daughter Kilo pictured at 8 months

Knowing this, our primary focus for the past 8 years has been to produce the best possible Pocket Bully Females to match up with our Top Tier Studs.

One thing that we never lost sight of as we added the dense bone, big blocky heads, muscular builds and Extreme features, is producing a complete dog. A lot of the “Extreme” American Bullies today, or at least many of the dogs being marketed as such.. are not what we would consider a complete American Bully.

DAWGHOUSE BULLIES & 2020-2021 MASCOT ABKC CHAMPION BIG APACHE

KENNEL INTERVIEW: DAWGHOUSE BULLIES FEATURING 2020-2021 MASCOT CHAMPION BIG APACHE

Dawghouse Bullies is Owned & Operated by Brian & Jacqueline Amendola Loctated in Boca Raton, FL

STATE YOUR NAME, KENNEL NAME & WHERE YOU’RE LOCATED

Dawghouse Bullies is owned and operated by Jacqueline and Brian Amendola in Boca Raton, Florida.

TELL US ABOUT THE NAME OF YOUR KENNEL AND WHAT IT REPRESENTS

The name “Dawghouse” came from my Brother In Law & one of our best friends (brother) to my husband Brian- Rudy DeTommaso. Rudy was an entrepreneur involved in Italian restaurants and nightclubs in South Florida. He often referred to his closest circle of family as “The Dawghouse.” Years ago, Rudy passed and we named our kennel “the Dawghouse” in his honor.

Because it reminds us of him and the good times that we had, and also because a tight family stays tight together. Both in good times and bad. To this day, we still see our dogs as tight as family and thus the name Dawghouse Bullies was created.

CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT THE YEAR & WHAT WAS GOING ON WHEN YOU GOT INVOLVED WITH THE BREED?

Back in 2000 we bred AKC American Staffordshire Terriers. We did not start breeding American Bullies and entering into ABKC shows until a few years later. We bought our very first American Bully in 2013 from Royal Blue Kennels out of Stuart, Florida. We named him RBK’s Blue Dozer.

Dozer is currently an ABKC Champion in the Classic class and now retired. We loved Dozer so much that we decided to purchase a female just for him! We went with another breeder out of Tampa (Grindhouse Bullies). We decided to name her Grindhouse’s Aww Sookie Sookie… and the name fit perfectly. And from there, it was pretty much all she wrote!

HOW WERE YOU INTRODUCED TO THE BREED?

We were blessed with Sookie’s first litter – 10 perfect dual registered UKC/ABKC competitive show bullies. With the birth of these beautiful puppies our obsession with this incredible breed only increased. What’s not to love about these beautiful beasts? Like many, we fell totally in love with the breed, their build, color, amazing personalities and temperament. After a few years, we decided to focus our attention solely on breeding American Bullies that fit the Pocket Class. Pocket bullies are not the easiest to breed, but to us it’s the class and style of bully we love the most.

WHAT TYPE OF DOGS DO YOU BREED & WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE TRAITS OF THIS PARTICULAR BREED?

Our vision and goal at Dawghouse Bullies is to produce Pocket American Bullies with Extreme Features. Dogs that exemplify breed “type” and are still able to excel in the show ring. We focus on the importance of thickness, bone and head in our dogs, without losing sight of the ABKC breed Standard and having “correct” conformation for the Show Ring.

We don’t breed just to breed dogs, Dawghouse has always planned breedings with a goal in mind. While we may not have as many litters as many other breeders- when we do, the two dogs being paired together are a combination of the very best pedigrees.

DID YOU HAVE A MENTOR OR ANY GUIDANCE WHEN YOU 1ST STARTED?

We’ve been blessed to have had some great mentors along the way! One of the first was Kathy McCloyne of Royal Blue Kennels and the other was Olin Stephens of Grindhouse Bullies. If we ever feel lost or need helpful insight, we always go back to the basics. And many times it has to do with what they taught us.

These two mentors of ours are always just a phone call away! We are extremely grateful for all of the knowledge that they have passed down to us, and in return we try to pass down the same lessons that we’ve learned over the years to other breeders with less experience, or anyone with good intentions and willingness to learn.

WHAT DOES YOUR DOGS DIET CONSIST OF?

Our dogs’ diets consist of Raw food. We use a commercial meat grinder to grind raw bone for the dogs to eat. Their diet consists of beef, chicken, pork, fish, liver, tripe, kidney etc. If you are interested, there are many Youtube videos that teach both the benefits of feeding raw and how to do it. We always say to “do your own research and make your own decision” after you’ve done your own research. But for us, it was a simple decision to make.

Especially due to the fact that one of our own dogs was allergic to just about everything. We had to give her medication in an attempt to keep her skin issues under control. Once we made the transition to a raw diet, we noticed significant changes in all of our dogs! Coats began to become noticeably shinier, not dusty or dry looking. We noticed improvement in muscle tone and definition and considerable weight gain. After a short period of feeding raw, we were able to get off of the allergy medication altogether and the same female with skin issues has not had a single breakout in the past five years.

WHAT DO YOU HAVE PLANNED AT YOUR KENNEL OVER THE NEXT YEAR?

We just had an in-house breeding and were absolutely thrilled with the results! We paired one of our very own female productions- ABKC Champion Dawghouse’s Fury. We produced Fury in our breeding to Louis V Line’s Venom (Venom X Aww Sookie Sookie). Fury was Venom’s first born daughter and also the very first Venom offspring to become a Chamnpion.

We bred to Ed Shephard’s “couch dog” Daxline’s Santino. As many know, Santino produced 2019 Nationals Winner ABKC Grand Champion Sampson. If you’re familiar with bloodlines, no further explanation is needed on this one. A tight line breeding with just enough variation, this nine times Dax and two times Louis V litter resulted in a litter of absolute show stoppers!

CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT ANY NEW ADDITIONS TO YOUR CAMP?

We recently added a new member to our pack: a Dreamchaser Bullies female off of Bai Nan’s legendary Ch Muscletone’s Magoo. She was bred by his partner Karen from Clay Southerns. We appreciate the help from these two so that we can keep moving in the direction of our visions. Wishing nothing but goodness for those around us. #ELE.

TELL US MORE ABOUT 2020 BULLY KING MASCOT DAWGHOUSE’S BIG APACHE

Big Apache was produced in a pairing between Mad Dog’s Pandora of TSB/DHB, a Champion Lucky Luciano Daughter that we matched up with Phokings’ Big Red, a Grand Champion Rockomania son. This was a breeding between two very short and “bully” dogs that produced some amazing results. This breeding was a collaboration between Venomline’s Matt Siebenthal and Dawghouse Bullies. Every single pup from this litter has turned out to be exceptional.

The litter not only produced 2020 BULLY KING Magazine Mascot Champion Big Apache but also his brother Grand Champion Diesel. Diesel made headlines months back becoming one of the youngest ABKC Grand Champions in breed history at just 11 months old. GrCh Diesel is owned by Robert & Melissa Thomas. We’re expecting big things as well out of his siblings like Blackout owned by Richard Korakakos and Hollywood AKA “Roman” owned by David and Brittany Farag.

CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT APACHE’S STATS AND HIS PERSONALITY?

Apache currently shows in the pocket class where he earned his Champion Title. We will be working toward his Grand Champion Title next and he has already earned a major in his first time showing in the class. Apache is just a little over 1 1/2 years old and currently weighs in at an earth shattering 90 pounds.

That’s a ton of mass on a Pocket Bully that’s structurally sound. Apache has five loves in his life: Raw food, his frisbee, his family, sleeping and he loves to play! What he dislikes, is negative energy. Apache is an eternal optimist that sees the best in just about anyone. But he can also sense negative energy and people with bad intentions. We think this is his gift!

How can we tell when he doesn’t like a person? He hides behind us ever so obviously and inconspicuously… Not! Hard to hide that massive body of his, but he seems to think he does a good job. Apache doesn’t have a mean bone in his body, so he’d never bite (even if antagonized). To this day, we’ve never seen him show his teeth to any dog, human or animal. As gentle as he is, he also serves as our alarm system. When someone is at the door or he sees the mailman, he’s happy to show off his ferocious bark, which makes us laugh because we know he’d never do anything to anyone.

ANY SHOUTOUTS OR PEOPLE YOU’D LIKE TO MENTION?

We would like to thank Fort Lauderdale Animal Hospital who’s our primary reproductive veterinarian for helping us with Apaches stud program and with all of our breedings and surgical needs. Please feel free to Contact us at dawghousebullies.com or dawghousebullies on Instagram and Facebook for more information on Apache.

We have always admired Ed Shepherd and his accomplishments as a breeder and dogman. Ed was not only extremely knowledgeable about the breed, but his passion was contagious and he inspired countless others. Ed was also a man of God and wasn’t afraid to let you know it!. He was an incredible man that is responsible for creating many of the biggest legends in our breed! We want to say thank you to him for everything!

If you’re not already following Jackie and Dawghouse Bullies, be sure to give Dawghouse a follow on all of their social media sites and keep up with the latest from BULLY KING Mascot ABKC Champion Big Apache, ABKC Champion Fury, ABKC Champion Dozer and the rest of the Dawghouse crew!

DAWGHOUSE BULLIES PUPPIES

As of this writing- Champion Apache’s first couple litters have arrived and we’re beyond ecstatic with both their potential and his future at Stud. Dawghouse’s puppies are in high demand, so if you’re interested in a quality bully from an exceptional breeder that truly cares about the breed and the puppies produced, it’s best to reserve in advance by leaving a deposit on a future breeding before spots fill up.

But if you keep your dogs outside, leave them chained up or cannot provide a loving home or afford proper care, vet visits etc., don’t be offended if Jackie refuses to sell you a dog. As we mentioned earlier, Jackie truly loves her babies and only wants them placed with loving, responsible owners. If you can provide a loving home, proper care or do not treat your dogs as part of the family, find another breeder. But if you truly love your dogs and treat them as part of the family, you won’t find a more knowledgeable, caring and quality breeder.

Jackie not only follows up with her puppies that leave, she’s also one of the absolute best in her field when it comes to diet, whelping litters as well as being experienced in both training and showing in conformation events (dog shows). Not only is she experienced, she’s accomplished in the show ring as well, having champed out multiple produced dogs in several different classes.

We’ve published several of Jackie’s articles in past issues as she’s our “go to” resource on food and diet as well as many other aspects of this incredible breed. When you choose Dawghouse, you’re not only getting top of the line dog- you’re gaining a mentor and friend. One that’s always willing to help and guide, teach and is a source of invaluable information.

MOST PROUD MOMENT OF 2020?

There have been many proud moments since we started out on this journey! One of the accomplishments that we’re most proud of is taking some of our productions into the ABKC show ring, and despite having never been a handler ourselves- we’ve managed to earn ABKC Champion Titles for three dogs in two different Classes.

Champion Apache, Champion Fury and Champion BlueDozer. Despite being new to handling our own dogs, we decided why stop there? Big Apache, Fury and Blue Dozer have all currently earned points toward their Grand Champion titles.

ANYTHING YOU’D LIKE TO SEE CHANGE OR IMPROVE IN OUR BREED?

We believe that American Bully Breeders today in general, need to emphasize more on creating functional and healthy American Bullies. Those with “correct” structure that are show quality, without losing sight of health and temperament.

We will always put these criteria first and foremost as our program objective. We believe that the ABKC is making great strides in improving breed standards. We like the diversity of the judges’ and their opinions. Although it’s inevitable that judging can be subjective, as a whole they’re usually pretty close to each other in terms of what they like to see across the board. We usually see the same top 3 dogs picked in a quad show, usually just in different order. Though some may not agree, we think diverse judging is a good thing within reason.

Please feel free to reach out to us anytime! We’re easy to find and happy to help.

1 INCREDIBLE BREED IN MANY DIFFERENT SIZES: MICRO, POCKET, STANDARD, XL & THE EXOTIC BULLY

WHAT IS A POCKET AMERICAN BULLY?

What is a “Pocket” American Bully? And what is the difference between a Micro, Pocket, Standard and XL American Bully? What is an Exotic Bully?

With so many different types of and terms used to describe a single breed — searching for an American Bully puppy can be a daunting task — especially so for those who are new to the breed. With so many choices and options, where should you begin?

Venomline Pocket American Bully Puppies

Deciding on the type of American or Exotic bully that best suits you is an important decision. Far too often — buyer’s will make impulsive decisions without gathering all of the facts — only to end up regretting the decision later.

Louis V Line’s Venom

Often, first time buyers will rush out and make a purchase only to end up spending several thousand dollars on food & supplements over the course of their dog’s life in an attempt to achieve a desired build that just isn’t possible if it isn’t in the dog’s genetic makeup. Money that could’ve been spent up front on quality stock.

But, if you take the time to arm yourself with facts and educate yourself on the various types and terms used to describe the American Bully before making a purchase, chances are — you’ll start with the type or class that best suits your individual needs or preference.

THE DIFFERENT TYPES, VARIETIES, CLASSES & SIZES OF THE AMERICAN BULLY BREED

POCKET, STANDARD, CLASSIC, XL, MICRO & THE EXOTIC BULLY

In this article, we’ll cover the 4 American Bully Classes according to the American Bully breed’s founding registry — the ABKC. We will also shed light on some of the different terms used to describe the “other” types of American Bully and Exotic Bully’s. Terms like Nano, Micro, Teacup, Extreme, XXL & the latest fad “Merle” bullies.

THE AMERICAN BULLY CLASSES (VARIETIES)

For those who may be new to the breed and still learning, let’s take a look at the different Classes in the American Bully breed according to the founding registry — The American Bully Kennel Club, also known as the ABKC Registry as well as the United Kennel Club, referred to as the UKC.

AMERICAN BULLY (ORIGINAL) CLASSES

ABKC Breed Standard (Original)

POCKET, CLASSIC, STANDARD, EXTREME & XL

It is important to note the ABKC got rid of the extreme class — initially a handicap allowed in the developmental stages of the American Bully in it’s infancy.

This was because there was a huge amount of these dogs in the breed’s gene pool base and from a large bloodline within the breed; which was one of the founding bloodlines to be exact. The reason for the leniency is these were bigger heavier dogs that needed more time of development to achieve ideal conformation.

The “handicaps” were designed to be eliminated over time until this variety met the same standards as the Standard.

THE AMERICAN BULLY “EXTREME” CLASS

Grand Champion Reliance’s Chumper

In the earlier ABKC days, “Extreme” was a variety/class that dogs could show, compete and earn Champion Titles in. But, a few years back the ABKC announced that it was getting rid of the Extreme Class.

There were many that misunderstood this action — making the assumption that this was due to the fact that the ABKC did not want “Extreme” dogs. But the truth of the matter was the exact opposite.

The American Bully muscular body and blocky head. The American Bully should have the appearance of heavy bone structure with a bulky build and look.

The American Bully Kennel Club ABKC

From the American Bully Kennel Club (ABKC):

The American Bully is a young breed and still in its development phase. When a registry takes on a new breed the first stage is obviously to create a criterion of the requirements to be eligible to register as the brood stock of this breed.

The “Extreme” Variety was the same as the standard overall, but carrying more mass. This variety was initially allowed some of what they refer to, as “handicaps” meaning there was some leniency to certain traits beyond the standard. The reason for the leniency is that there were bigger heavier dogs that needed more time of development in order to achieve ideal conformation. The “handicaps” were designed to be eliminated over time until this variety met the same standards as the standard.

AMERICAN BULLY CLASSES

(2014-PRESENT)

There are currently 4 Classes/Varieties in the American Bully breed as determined by adult height. The “Extreme” which was initially allowed as a “handicap” is no longer an official Variety or class in the American Bully breed, as they are supposed to carry “type.” Meaning, that it should be easily distinguishable from similar breeds, and at first glance — be identifiable as an American Bully.

The American Bully should stand apart from — and should not confused with similar breed’s in it’s ancestry — like the American Pit Bull Terrier, Staffordshire Terrior and various Bulldog breeds.

Standard and Pocket are now not to be penalized for dogs carrying more mass as long as they are correct and balanced.

POCKET

This is an amendment to the basic standard which a Pocket Bully is determined by its adult height.

Males under 17″ and no less than 14″ at the withers. Females under 16″ and no less than 13″ at the withers.

STANDARD

The American Bully should give the impression of great strength for it’s size. It is a compact and medium/large size dog with a muscular body and blocky head. The American Bully should have the appearance of heavy bone structure with a bulky build and look.

Males 17 inches — 20 inches (43 cm — 51 cm) at the withers. Females 16 inches — 19 inches (40 cm — 48 cm) at the withers.

CLASSIC

This is an amendment to the basic standard. A Classic Bully is determined by it’s body structure and build. Both sex dogs with lighter body frames and less overall body mass, but still exibiting “bully” traits.

The Classic Bully variety is simply an American Bully dog having lighter body frames (lighter bone) and less overall body mass (less substance) than the Standard American Bully.

Aside from this difference, the Classic Bully variety follows the same standard as the Standard American Bully.

XL

This is an amendment to the basic standard, determined by it’s adult height. It is important to note that the XL Bully variety is simply taller than the Standard American Bully. XL dogs share the same build, body type and breed type as the Standard American Bully.

Males over 20″-23″ at the withers. Females over 19″-22″ at the withers.

THE EXOTIC BULLY

The Exotic Bully is a newer designer dog breed that began to distance itself from the American Bully as early as 2008. It has established itself as a separate breed from it’s cousin — the American Bully, and is still a controversial topic with much needed breed standards.

One of the few descriptions or characteristics of an Exotic Bully that almost everyone involved with the breed can seem to agree on are “exaggerated features on a smaller, more compact dog,” described as carrying more “bulldog features.”

The foundation of most of the “exotic bully’s” of today can be attributed to the American Bully being bred with various types of smaller bulldog breeds including but not limited to: French Bulldogs, English Bulldogs and Shorty Bulls.

The Exotic bully (as a whole) is known for being littered with health, heart & joint issues, have terrible conformation and extremely short life spans.

PHOTOSHOP AMONG EXOTIC BULLY BREEDERS

This photoshop job is so bad it’s comical

Photoshop runs rampant in the Exotic bully world, so be careful. If this is your desired type of bully — go and see the dogs in person before deciding to make a purchase. To be frank, the Exotic bully (as a whole) is an absolute disaster.

For this class of dog to ever have any longevity, or to be taken seriously — it desperately needs a breed standard, a Registry and Judges that hold exotic breeders accountable, and Judges that have a basic understanding of dog anatomy.

It’s difficult for real dogmen and women to respect breeders responsible for dogs that have to be carted around in strollers and sat up on a tables (as most can’t physically walk the show ring) and end up dead before the age of 3. That’s all we’ll say about this topic, as we don’t want to offend anyone further. But it’s the blind leading the blind.

This isn’t to say there aren’t any nice exotic bullies, because there are. But the are few and far between. But, with a little research you can find Micro & Pocket American Bullies as short or shorter, more compact, with more bone, better head, neck and shoulders— on a complete dog — from head to rear.

One that is functional, has a longer lifespan and doesn’t come with nearly as many health issues.

THE MERLE BULLY

Although they have been popping up on social media as “rare colored” American and Exotic Bullies — the Merle color coat has no place in the American Bully breed. Merle is a fad. It will pass, just like all the other fads that have crept into the American Bully breed only to disappear later on.

I’d be lying if I said that the first generation (1st litter: Merle to a non-Merle) weren’t beautiful dogs, because they are.

But what a lot of less experienced breeders don’t realize — is that in 3–4 generations — they’re going to be stuck with a yard full of black and white dogs that nobody wants.

They won’t be able to give away for free, let alone sell them. And that’s not even getting into the health issues.

Read: Is the Merle Coat acceptable in the American Bully breed?

Now that you have a basic understanding of the different classes within the American Bully breed, let’s take a look at how this relatively new breed went from virtually unknown — to top of the list for “fastest growing new breed” each of the past five years. Let’s revisit how it all began.

HISTORY OF THE AMERICAN BULLY

The American Bully breed was created around 1990 and gained recognition and establishment in 2004 with the inception of the American Bully Kennel Club, also known as the ABKC Registry.

The United Kennel Club or UKC recognized the American Bully breed in 2013. There are other registries, but for the purposes of this article we will mention the main few- which are the ABKC, BBCR. BRC Global and the UKC.

According to the ABKC- The American Bully breed has been selectively bred to give America’s breed, the American Pit Bull Terrier, a new direction and outlet. Like with the American Staffordshire Terrier (which is also an offshoot of the American Pit Bull Terrier) all of the positive characteristics of the breed’s ancestry were kept — these Include loyalty, stability with humans and children, along with many of their physical attributes.

Traits of dog and human aggression have been bred out, as they have no future purpose for this trait (outside of hunting & sport) A reinvented breed was formed, with the purpose of being the ultimate companion breed, and this breed is the “American Bully.”

According to the UKC — The American Bully breed was subtly influenced by the infusion of several other breeds which include the American Bulldog, English Bulldog, Pacific Bulldog as well as the Olde English Bulldogge among other Bulldog breeds.

What differentiates the American Bully breed from it’s ancestors — the American Staffordshire Terrier and the American Pit Bull Terrier (aside from it’s genetic makeup) is the dog’s physical appearance.

Top Pocket Bully Studs | Louis V Line’s Venom & Omega

The American Bully Breed is one of heavier bone structure and “bullier” build than it’s American Pit Bull Terrier and Staffordshire Terrier ancestors, but without many of the health issues prevalent in many of the breed’s Bulldog ancestry.

THE PERFECT COMPANION BREED?

To many, it’s the perfect blend. A companion breed without the heightened game drive of an American Pit Bull Terrier, yet more active and without as many of the health issues found in many of the Bulldog breeds in it’s makeup. The result?

A calm, confident breed of dog with a statuesque build a bodybuilder’s physique. Despite the American Bully’s fierce and powerful appearance, their demeanor is gentle, making the American Bully an excellent family companion.

A breed that’s become known for its fun, silly and goofy personality, a zest for life and an exuberant will to please their master. American Bullies are friendly with strangers, other dogs and most other animals.

Human or dog aggression, extreme shyness or viciousness is very uncharacteristic of the American Bully and highly undesirable.

THE AMERICAN BULLY BREED’S RISE IN POPULARITY

The American Bully first became one of the fastest growing new breeds in 2014 and it has remained in the Top 5 every year since. In 2018, the American Bully breed became the fastest growing dog breed in terms of popularity and it hasn’t shown signs of slowing down since. The breed is on track to finish 2019 in similar fashion. So why are so many falling in love with this breed?

COMMON MISCONCEPTIONS ABOUT THE AMERICAN BULLY

Even with the American Bully breed’s explosive growth and expansion into new countries and territories, there is still much confusion about the breed made worse by several misconceptions and stereotypes. Inaccurate information online perpetuated by ill-informed media outlets have furthered misunderstandings regarding the breed.

There are still some who confuse the American Bully with it’s cousin — the American Pit Bull Terrier. Both are great breeds, and although they share similar linage and look — they distinct and separate breeds, recognized by several respected registries as such.

So, the American Bully breed has caught your attention, but there’s so many different types, bloodlines and classes to choose from. It can be a little overwhelming at first in deciding where to begin. For those who may be new to the breed or are first considering owning an American Bully — one of the first decisions to make is to decide on a class.

DECIDING ON A CLASS, SIZE OR TYPE

This is one of the first and often overlooked steps when deciding to purchase an American Bully puppy or adult. Ask yourself, what type of bully best suits your interest?Do you want something smaller or shorter?

In this case, you’ll probably want a Pocket Bully. Wanting something bigger? Then a Standard Bully might be a better fit. Interested in something even bigger or perhaps a small horse? A bully that’s over 100lbs and absolutely massive — then the XL class is probably for you.

WHAT ‘S YOUR GOAL?

Once you’ve decided which size you prefer, next ask yourself what is your goal? Are you simply interested in a pet, or are you considering having a litter or showing in conformation events (dog shows?) The answer to these questions will help you in deciding where to begin your search. They will also have a big effect on the price you can expect to pay.

If you’re simply looking for a pet, you can find one at much lower prices than if you’re looking for a show dog, stud or breeding stock. If you do plan on showing or breeding in the future, it often makes sense to pay for a higher quality dog than what you would be getting at pet prices.

AMERICAN BULLY PUPPY COST

HOW MUCH DOES AN AMERICAN BULLY COST? WHAT IS THE AVERAGE PRICE?

  • Show Quality & Breeding Stock: $5000-$10,000+
  • Pet Quality w/Registration Paperwork: $2500+
  • Pets without papers: $2500-$1000

Again, these prices are just the average price you can expect to pay when buying an American Bully puppy. Prices can be well above or below this range depending on a variety of factors which we will discuss in detail below.

UNDERSTANDING PEDIGREES

Be sure to get detailed pedigree information on the dogs to ensure you are getting a quality linebred dog (meaning that the same ancestors appear more than once in the 4 generation pedigree) Linebred dogs usually produce more consistent litters.

Kennels that have been around for a while, that have quality productions to show and an idea about what they’re doing will usually linebreed.

PRODUCTIONS MATTER

There’s plenty of overnight breeders hyping up their litters as the best thing since sliced bread, but most don’t have the productions to back up the hype. Has the breeder produced any Champions or Grand Champions?

What Studs have they produced? Have the females that they’ve produced turn out to become quality breeding stock for other kennels?

How do some of the later picks on their litters turn out?

This will say a lot about the consistency of a breeding program.

Once you have purchased foundation females to build your program with, the next step is to decide on a Stud.

AMERICAN BULLY STUD SERVICE

Most breeders offer a stud service. If you are new to breeding dogs, you should take advantage of this.

Many that get started in the dog breeding business usually purchase a stud dog or two along with some female dogs. As Venomline discussed above, the better way of going about this is to start off by purchasing female dogs.

When they are ready to be bred you can contact kennels that offer stud service or contact the kennel you purchased the female from for use of their Studs. Housing, feeding, and taking care of male dogs can be expensive and even then you’re not guaranteed a great stud dog once they mature.

BENEFITS OF USING A STUD FROM A BREEDER RATHER THAN PURCHASING ONE YOURSELF:

Louis V Line’s Omega

DECIDING ON AN AMERICAN BULLY STUD DOG

1. Using a well known stud can help with litter sales

2. You can line breed your dog using the kennel that you purchased your female from. (Line breeding will produce more consistent litters)

3. You could end up waiting a year or two only to find out that the male that you purchased didn’t turn out to be a worthy stud dog. (Avoid this all together by using studs from a top breeder)

Many breeders will decide to breed their foundation female to a mediocre male (because that’s what they purchased) The outcome: usually a watered-down version of what was originally intended. Doing this can set a breeder back several years, whereas “grading up” (the breeding of females on hand to a male of higher quality) can be a shortcut to success.

A STUD VS A “PROVEN” PRODUCER… THERE IS A DIFFERENCE

Any male dog that produces semen has the ability to become a Stud. But, a Stud that is a “Proven Producer” is one that can out produce themselves on a consistent basis. They are the few with the ability to stamp their look with every litter. Top producing dogs are most often inbred or linebred from an outstanding bloodline.

Ever wondered why some studs seem to produce consistent litters almost every time out — while others show up on the scene with a ton of hype only to fizzle out a few months later — when the stud’s offspring never quite match the hype behind the Stud?

What is it that some Studs have that others don’t? Did the producing Stud owner get lucky? Sometimes. But the majority of the time — the Top Studs come from an experienced breeding program with an established track record of success. Programs that have a basic understanding of genetics and those who’ve put in the years and taken the time to educate themselves on various breeding methods and principles that worked well for others. The rest is learned through experience, successes and failures and trial and error.

In other words, breeders that know what they’re doing. Linebred and inbred Studs have a much higher chance at passing on traits than a scatterbred Stud dog. That’s just basic genetics.

VENOMLINE FEMALES

THE EXTREME BUILD POCKET AMERICAN BULLY FEMALES OF VENOMLINE

Venomline females are known for being some of the “bulliest” and most Extreme females on the planet. But what separates us from many other breeders are the females used as part of our breeding program.

It’s simple to use a top Stud, anyone can do that… but at Venomline, we know that it takes both a Top level Stud and a Top Level bitch to produce quality litters on a consistent basis.

QUALITY FEMALES ARE INTEGRAL TO A BREEDING PROGRAM’S SUCCESS

Venom daughter Kilo pictured at 8 months

Females are integral to the success of any breeding program. Without using quality females to pair with Top Studs, litters more than likely just end up being a watered down version of what was initially intended.

THE FOUNDATION & NEXT GENERATION FEMALES OF VENOMLINE

THE HISTORY OF ED SHEPHERD & DAXLINE

Article Originally Featured on Medium by BULLY KING Magazine

Ed Shepherd is one of the original founders of the breed known as the American Bully. Ed started at a time where American Pit Bulls for the most part, were tall, thin, and followed the APBT breed standard.

When Ed first started breeding, he did some research on the internet and purchased a couple of pit bulls. He soon realized that both he and his kids loved the temperament of these dogs and it was the breed of their choice from that day forward.

HOW GOTTILINE STARTED

THE GOTTILINE BLOODLINE

The Gottiline Pit bull Bloodline, otherwise known as the Gotti Pitbulls, Gottyline or Gotty Pitbulls have become one of the most popular bloodlines in American Bully Community. This bloodline was started by Richard Barajas of West Side Kennels. He actually owned the first sire, The Notorious Juan Gotty.

Back in 1997, he bought Gotty for an amount of $1,300 from Tony Moore. Richard probably didn’t know at the time what a great buy Juan Gotty was. Tony owned Grey Line Kennels in Los Angeles.

The History of Lowjack Remy-Martin & Remyline

NOTORIOUS JUAN GOTTY OF WEST SIDE KENNELS

Tony Moore of Greyline pitbulls produced Notorious Juan Gotty, a dog who later would be the credited for the Gottiline bloodline. Tony sold Gotty to Richard Barajas when he was still a puppy. Gotty was a 100% Greyline dog.

The dogs Tony produced were known for their drive and gameness, far from the American Bullies that you see today. Gary Moore of Blue Star Kennels refers to dogs without drive as “Kibble Munchers” and wants nothing to do with lazy dog without drive.

Gary’s ideal dog would be able to climb trees, take down criminals. This was a temperament that Ed Shepherd was not interested in. This extreme drive or “gameness” is not found in today’s American Bullies and was is known to exist find in lines like Greyline, amongst a few others considered “old school bloodlines.”

Some die hard game American Pit Bull Terrier fans would argue that dogs like Gotty were dogs in the early stages of the transformation of the American Bully breed and that these dogs were not true APBT lines (think Colby, Jeep, Old Family Red Nose etc.) But that is a controversial topic and an entire article in itself.

Whichever side of the argument you’re on, many of the old school bloodlines and the majority of the 100% greyline dogs still carried the original APBT temperament and drive. New Troijan Kennels in Los Angeles for example has 100% greyline dogs. Their dogs for the most part are known to have extremely high energy levels and drive, and are able to preform well in sports such as weight pulling, and protection training.

Back to the beginning of Gottiline.. Richard Barajas was breeding Juan Gotty at the time. His kennel name was West Side Kennels. So Ed decided to come up with an idea for creating a name for his yard. The name Ed decided on was Gottyline.

HOW ED SHEPHERD CREATED DAXLINE

Richard was a friend of Eds and at the time, and although he didn’t really like the idea Ed using the name “Gottyline,” but he didn’t make a big deal of it and began to use the name as well. Ed chose to spell Gottyline as it reads on Juan Gotty’s papers with the letter “Y.”

Richard however, began using the name but spelling it with an “I” and using “Gottiline.” This is the reason you will see this bloodline spelled both ways from time to time.

THE PURCHASE OF 21 BLACKJACK

Ed had purchased Blackjack at the time Cruz was first getting into the Razors Edge bloodline. At the time, Cruz wasn’t as interested in Blackjack, because Blackjack wasn’t a Razors Edge dog. At the time, there was no Gottiline.

Things really started to take off for Ed after purchasing 21 Blackjack from Cruz of Bow Wow Pits.Cruz is perhaps most well known for his Stud Blow, a Monster G son. Cruz went on to be successful in his own right, creating a clothing line based off of Blow. The clothing line was simply known as Blow Genes.

Ed started to show 21 Blackjack and soon champed him out. From the popularity of 21 Blackjack, Ed started to build his Kennel. After years of line breeding and inbreeding, he created a solid recognizable look and had a yard full of amazing bullies.Around 2008, Ed bred West Coast Gottyline’s Romeo to his female Barbee.

This is how he produced the now world famous Gottyline’s Dax. After Dax began to mature, Ed realized that he had produced a truly remarkable stud dog, that at the time, was his best production to date. He then renamed his kennel and bloodline Daxline.

Dax was considered an extreme Bully. He had a very easy going temperament and was completely non aggressive. Ed has no interest in breeding dogs with aggression, high energy or poor temperament. Dax finished his Show Career as an ABKC Grand Champion in the Extreme Class, but it was not without controversy.

Dax stood around 15 inches at the withers, weighed 75 pounds, and had a 24 inch head. He was Ed’s only house dog at the time.Ed simply states that he is loved part of the family and is also too valuable to leave outside.

DAX OFFSPRING

Dax is known as the best producing bully in the history of the American Bully movement. There is some debate as to whether Dax was an F1, F2 or F2b dog, but what isn’t up for debate is whether Dax could produce. There was an ongoing joke among breeders that his ability to produce was so consistent he “could lay dick to a Chihuahua and drop a Champion or two.”

We’re kidding of course, but his ability to produce was legendary. Dax Sired Ch Lucky Luciano, Louis V, Ch Magoo, Cashpot, Dual GrCh G-Train, Spartacus, Phenom, Boss, Kill Bill, Heat Stroke, Lil Sitch, Status, Havoc, Goku, Uso, Wyatt Earp among many others.

DAX’S INFLUENCE ON THE AMERICAN BULLY BREED

Several of the top programs in the country have utilized what only Dax could bring to a yard- that Daxline signature head, neck and shoulders. Without Dax, we would be without most of the Top American Bullies today. Thank you Ed, for trusting & sticking to your vision, especially before everyone became a believer.

On top of being one of the most important figures of the American Bully movement, which has now become a worldwide phenomenon… Ed is one of the most down to Earth people you’ll ever meet. He’s always willing to pass down what he’s learned to those willing to listen, and is always respectful. For as much as he’s accomplished he remains humble. You’ll never hear him put down another breeder or dog.

From all of us here at BULLY KING Magazine, and from everyone who’s been impacted by Ed’s contribution to the American Bully Breed, we want to say thank you. It’s only right that Ed will be the receiving our 1st ever “Lifetime Achievement Award” later this year.

INTRODUCING THE 2020-2021 BULLY KING MASCOTS

MEET THE 2019–2020 MASCOTS

An American Bully that needs no introduction: One of the top proven producers on the planet, 2018 American Bully Embassy’s Stud of the Year, Grand Champion Kaos. Kaos is owned by Mike Sierra of Straight Heat Kennels. Born and raised in California, Kaos now lives with Mike in Lubbock, Texas.

Kaos has solidified his position as one of the Top Stud dogs in the world, with a growing list of Champion offspring. As of this writing, Kaos has produced 10 Champion and 2 Grand Champion offspring. This is a bully that is the complete package, a perfect combination of extreme traits and the “wow factor” desired, yet still proven and accomplished in the Show Ring.

Kaos earned his Grand Champion Title at the tender age of just 14 months and he didn’t slow down there, owner Mike Sierra is one of the hardest working guys in the business. Mike is known for traveling long hours with his best bud and has brought him to shows for the public to see him in person all throughout the US and overseas as well. The Grand Champion has also traveled with Mike to Amsterdam, France and most notably, Holland- where Kaos won Best Grand Champion over some stiff competition, one of them being Grand Champion Mr. Bean.

2020 will be GrCh Kaos’ last year hitting the Show Ring and doing the meet and greets he and his owner have become known for, due to some exciting news for Mike. The proud owner has accepted an offer to become a WBR judge, with their next stop in Spain on February 8th. It is both an honor and priveledge to have a certified Legend like Grand Champion Kaos as one of our Mascots for the upcoming year.

For information on GrCh Kaos’ upcoming litters, or for Stud Service, Mike can be reached directly by phone at 661–369–5687, on Facebook: Mike Sierra or by email: mikesierra42@yahoo.com

Introducing the second youngest Mascot on our Roster: Venomline’s Rampage, son of former Mascot Louis V Line’s Venom. When he was just 10 months old, home video of Rampage standing in the kitchen went viral and he was immediately thrust into the spotlight, instantly becoming one of the most watched (and discussed) young up and coming Studs. By the time he was 12 months old, the 2X Venom Clone had already amassed a following of loyal fans across the globe. This is one of those special bulls that only come along every few generations.

Rampage “George” is a 2X Venom son (Venom X Moana)that redefines the term “Extreme Build Pocket Bully.” He stands at just under 14.5” tall, and at 16 months old he’s already tipping the scales at 84lbs and is rocking a better than 24” headpiece. The Champagne Gorilla is a product of the first ever 2X Venom breeding, and has to be seen to believe. When people lay eyes on him in person or see video of him for the very first time, the reaction is usually the same. “Rampage leaves people scratching their heads in disbelief.”

Venomline’s Rampage is a standout from an entire litter of Superstars. He’s littermates with Champion Venomline’s Lil Ting, Venomline’s Savage, Keke of MBK Bullys and Vanna White of Golden Circle Bullies. The entire litter, down to fifth pick female have had people scratching their heads in disbelief that Louis V Line’s Venom was able to do that all in one breeding. The scary part about Rampage is that he’s technically still a puppy. With the way this boy is progressing, you could very well could be looking at the next Top Stud.

To keep up with the rising Star be sure to give Venomline a “like” on their Facebook page (Texas Size Bullies) or by following the kennel on Instagram @Venomline

The Youngest bull on our roster, Big Apache, may still be maturing, but he can already hang with the big boys at just 10 months old. Produced in the Big Red X Panda breeding by Dawghouse Bullies.

Apache is a standout from an entire litter of stars. Most recently, his littermate brother Diesel made news by becoming one of the three youngest ABKC Champions in breed history. Look for Apache to make his Champion run and possibly more in 2020.

This is one of the most impressive overall dogs we’ve ever seen at such a young age. Apache has it all, an impressive head with great shape and deep stop, an incredible muscular build, complete with a beautiful blue tri color coat with bright tan tri markings that really stand out. Apache still has a lot of filling out still to do, which is both amazing and terrifying for competing Studs his age. We’re calling it now… this is one of the next Top Studs.

Remember the name “Dawghouse’s Big Apache.” Apache is owned by Jacqueline and Brian Amendola out of Boca Raton, Florida. If you don’t already follow Dawghouse Bullies or have been living under a rock for the past couple years and haven’t seen the caliber of dogs coming out of their camp, we’d recommend starting now.

Give Dawghouse Bullies Facebook page a “like” or add them on Instagram @DawghouseBullies

One of Louis V’s best sons: Louis V Line’s Omega returns for another year! Originally part of our 2017 Mascot lineup, Omega has seen a resurgence in popularity over the past year as his productions have brought him back into the spotlight as one of the top producing studs in the country. From his all white coat to his muscular build, big blocky head and impressive structure, this is one of the most aesthetically pleasing dogs we’ve ever seen. A Pocket Bully that’s all substance, Omega has all of the big dog features, but on a 14.5″ frame without being overdone. This is a functional dog that moves very well for his size. In fact, Omega runs, jumps and swims better than most dogs carrying half of his mass.

Omega has proven himself time and time again as a phenomenal producer and is probably one of the most underrated Stud dogs in the country. “The little Polar Bear” is responsible for Siring multiple ABKC Champion offspring. “When the public starts to witness what he is capable of producing with the caliber of females that are currently lined up for him (Venomline and Venomline South females) Omega will be one of the most in demand studs in the country, just like his brother Venom”.

Omega is owned by Venomline’s North Carolina branch- Venomline’s South’s Alisa Smith. Just last year Venomline made headlines by adding Omega to a star studded lineup of top Studs. Be sure to give them a follow by “liking” their pages on Facebook: Texas Size Bullies (Venomline) and Venomline South, or by keeping up with them on Instagram @Venomline and @VenomlineSouth. For info on Stud Service and upcoming litters, visit www.VenomlineSouth.com or www.VenomlineBullies.com

For our next Mascot introduction, we have another Grand Champion Casablanca son- Muscletone’s Butch Cassidy. Butch is an inbred 2X Casablanca son (Casablanca bred back to his daughter Big Momma)

Butch Cassidy is one of the only 2X GrCh Casablanca sons residing in the United States, and was the only male from his litter. This GrCh Casablanca clone is a spitting image of his pops, an extreme American Bully that is very well put together. At just under 2 years of age and with only two ABKC shows under his belt, Butch Cassidy is already getting close to earning his Champion Title in the Standard class.

For those who love a lot of bully, Butch Cassidy is a sight to behold. He weighs in at a whopping 108lbs and is rocking a true + 26” head. We can confirm these stats, we weighed him and measured his head using Myo-Tape to be sure. We were in disbelief upon hearing ridiculous numbers like those, but they’re accurate.

This is a bull that not only stops traffic, but makes purse dog owners everywhere swoop up their tiny pooches and head in the opposite direction… and fast! Despite his massive size and exagerrated feautures, not to mention easily being confused with a small gorilla, Butch Cassidy is a gentle beast with a sweet nature and an awesome personality. Muscletone’s Butch Cassidy is proudly owned by Joe Schlereth out of New York.

Joe can be reached at 845–649–5536 or on Facebook under “Jdiesel Butch”

Interview: Steve Jurak | Platinum Bullies Australia

STATE YOUR NAME, KENNEL NAME & WHERE YOU’RE LOCATED

Steve Jurak , Platinum Bullies, Southern Highlands, NSW Australia

TELL US ABOUT THE NAME OF YOUR KENNEL AND WHAT IT REPRESENTS

I wanted a name that represented high quality. I said to my partner how about Platinum Bullies, not the gold standard but the Platinum standard and than she laughed and teased me but it did not stop it from sticking.

CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT THE YEAR & WHAT WAS GOING ON WHEN YOU GOT INVOLVED WITH THE BREED?

In 2014. El Toro was big at the time and this probably played a big part in insisting my first two imports had to be black tris.

HOW WERE YOU INTRODUCED TO THE BREED?

I had a trip to America with friends and saw quite a few bullies. I fell in love, but could not find the style I wanted in Australia so I started looking into importing.

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO GET INVOLVED IN THE BREED?

I have to be honest it was their looks and head turning ability, I wanted something that stood out. Secondly their temperament is what I consider ideal. There was also a lack of quality here at the time and the demand was there. I wanted to provide people with top quality Bullies.

WHAT TYPE OF DOGS DO YOU BREED & WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE TRAITS OF THIS PARTICULAR BREED?

American Bullies. Their structure, movement, temperament. In love with it all.

DID YOU HAVE A MENTOR OR GUIDANCE WHEN YOU 1ST STARTED?

No. Just the internet and forums. Damn do I wish I had one early on to stop all the mistakes but they are all great lessons that needed to be learnt the hard way.

DID YOU ATTEND SHOWS, MORE INTERESTED IN BREEDING, OR BOTH?

Yes shows and breeding, There are not too many shows in Australia (Shout out to Suzette Lee Turner who organises the ABKC shows), but I am starting to get involved in that scene and it is continuing to grow.

CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT SOME OF YOUR ALL-TIME FAVORITE DOGS?” (TOP 5)

1. THEE BUSS
2. MAGOO
3. AXEL
4. MYE-STRO
5. MR.BEAN

WHAT IS YOUR VISION OR MAIN GOAL?

To help more people get into this amazing breed and produce world class American Bullies that can compete with the top guys, providing them for the Australian community.

WHAT BLOODLINES DO YOU USE?

We have Bullies from many different bloodlines. If you see my favourite dogs you will see there is quite a variance in the blood I like.

WHAT DO YOU FEED YOUR DOGS & DO YOU USE ANY VITAMINS/SUPPLEMENTS?

We have Bullies from many different bloodlines. If you see my favourite dogs you will see there is quite a variance in the blood I like.

A premium kibble mixed with a raw diet from a company called CBE Raw, occasionally a multi vitamin powder and bones a few times weekly.

TELL US ABOUT YOUR DOGS

My dogs are all very easy work. We have a big pack walk of a morning and then they are lazing around until the afternoon when we have them back out in the yard playing together for a few hours. We can not help but have our favourite bully, Louie, a nice blue tri puppy from a recent Louis v lines Venom breeding. This boy is just so happy and gentle, stares into your eyes with his big blue eyes then sleeps most of the day. He has such a beautiful head that is going to be huge.

Plus, the arrival of 6 more American Bullies from America is going to keep us on our toes, grow our team, grow our brand and produce some amazing Bullies for the Australian community.

WHAT DO YOU HAVE PLANNED AT YOUR KENNEL OVER THE NEXT YEAR?

Too many exciting things happening shortly. We have the arrival of two Bully Market dogs, a Casablanca daughter, an Axel daughter, and a Rocko daughter. We also have semen from Chumper, Buss Junior and Axel arriving and we have breedings planned for them.

We also have made the purchase of a very special stud that we think was so very underrated and unknown in the community. One of the best Casablanca sons in my opinion, Makavelis Khafre.

WHO DO YOU LOOK UP TO OR ADMIRE IN THE BULLY GAME, AND WHY?

I will name two but there are a hell of a lot of people within the community that carry themselves with the integrity I look up to:

1. Robert Lee from The Bully Market who is hard working, has good ethics, is a family man, what he has done for the breed, how high calibre his yard is and he has over a million followers on facebook which is some damn impressive marketing skills.

2. Matt Siebenthal from Texas Size Bullies who was great to do business with. I love his dogs and he is another incredible marketer and business man who really got that little weapon Louis V Lines Venom out into the public eye. He always takes time to answer my questions and was there to give encouragement when I had some hard times starting out. He’s just an around good guy.

MOST MEMORABLE MOMENT OF 2018 SO FAR?

Meeting NW GRCH Thee Buss and our Venom breeding because we got our boy Louie we adore him.

OUTSIDE OF DOGS, WHAT ARE YOUR HOBBIES/INTERESTS?

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, weights, renovations, property investment, bush walks with my partner and dogs and just spending time with my partner.

WHERE CAN WE FIND YOUR DOGS, CONTACT YOU AND FOLLOW YOU ONLINE?

Instagram: @platinumbulliesaus
Facebook: www.facebook.com/platinumbulliesaus

Email: platinumbulliesaus@gmail.com

LET US SAY JUST SAY THAT IT HAS BEEN AN HONOR SPEAKING WITH YOU. ARE THERE ANY SHOUTOUTS, OR ANYTHING THAT YOU’D LIKE TO LEAVE OUR READERS WITH?

The guys in America working with me to get dogs and semen here, I much appreciate it, such a painful process to get it all done.

Suzette Lee Turner for throwing our ABKC events and all the work behind the scenes and of course all the Aussies in the community that help get this breed out and are just so welcoming.

BULLY KING Magazine for having me on, best bully mag out there!
